CHAPTER III
PREPOSITION
LEARNING OUTCOME
After learning the material and finishing the exercises, you are expected to be able
to use prepositions in sentences correctly.
SCORING CRITERIA
Your ability in mastering this chapter can be measured with the following scoring
criterias:
1. You are able to complete sentence using appropriate preposition.
2. You are able to complete the text using correct preposition.
INTRODUCTION
Prepositions are short words (on, in, to) that usually stand in front of nouns (sometimes
also in front of gerund verbs). Even advanced learners of English find prepositions
difficult. One preposition in your native language might have several translations
depending on the situation.
There are hardly any rules as to when to use which preposition. The only way to learn
prepositions is looking them up in a dictionary, reading a lot in English and learning useful
phrases off by heart.

CONCLUSION
As stated by Seaton and Mew (2007:132) a preposition is a word that connects one
thing with another, showing how they are related.. The wrong use of them make the
sentences incorrect or changes the meaning altogether.
