Erosive wear in piping systems

(DNV RP O501):
The DNV Recommended Practice RP O501 was developed to increase the understanding of particle erosion
in subsea and topside oil and gas systems, caused by sand produced from the reservoir.

Approach:

Acknowledging the inconsistent limitations given by the

traditional API RP 14E, the DNV RP O501 allows for
more accurate prediction of the erosion potential due to
sand production in Oil and Gas piping systems.

The DNV RP O501 accounts for: Benefits:

Multiphase flow in terms of superficial gas and liquid The RP O501 provides a cost and time
velocities efficient approach to determining the safety
critical impact of associated sand production,
Fluid properties in terms of density and viscosity either for production lines or sand cleaning
and disposal lines
Governing geometrical dimensions for straight
spools, pipe bends, Tee-bends, welded joints and Considering the large span in operational
reducers conditions from one field to another, or
between different wells, applying the RP
Variation in sand particle size O501 enables differentiation of allowable
sand production from individual wells
The DNV RP O501 was developed in 1996 (revised in
2005) as a Joint Industry Project sponsored by Statoil, Has been successfully applied in developing
