In my opinion the game of golf is one of the greatest things on this planet. There is almost no
other way I would rather spend a free day than on the links. Golf is one of our country's most popular
sports, yet the vast majority of kids have never swung a club in their lives. Because of the many barriers
to entry even the people who do fall in love with the game usually don’t do so until later in their life. The
three biggest factors that stop people from golfing are the price, the time commitment, and the snobby
attitude surrounding the sport. Falcon Golf Course in Bourne Massachusetts solves all three of these
problems. The 9 hole track is located on Otis Air National Guard Base around 15 minutes south of the
Bourne Bridge.

Design

The course itself is very simple and welcoming to the beginner golfer. Across the 9 holes there are no
dramatic elevation changes or water hazards. The bunkers are sparse and shallow. There is little variety
from hole to hole as the course only asks you to travel in a straight line from tee box to green. This simple
design makes it the perfect place to learn the game, but is not repeatable for an experienced golfer.
Condition
Falcon's conditions are the course's worst aspect. You should always play a preferred lie in the fairway as
the grass is inconsistent, and even in the grassy areas the ground is hard and frequently results in a bad lie.
Most bunkers have vegetation growing inside of them and are too easy to escape from. The greens are
painfully slow and are not cut often. Once again these are problems that will drive a veteran golfer crazy,
but are not really a huge deal if you are just looking to have a fun day on the course.

Vibe

The vibe of this course is what carries its rating to what it should be. The largest barrier to golf is the
steep price and snobby attitude that surrounds most clubs. At Falcon both these issues are completely
erased. As for the former, a 9 hole loop is only 5 dollars if you are under 18, and 10 if you are an adult.
This is far cheaper than any other course you will find on the cape, where the average price per round is
close to 100.

Falcon is easily the chillest golf course I have ever played at. The surrounding courses all have a strict
dress code on par with typical golf etiquette. At Falcon it is typical to see service members who just got
off work golfing in gym shorts and a t-shirt, and other reasonable things that would raise all sorts of
alarms at your typical country club. This vibe makes it super friendly for beginners who are looking to
learn in a relaxed envoirment.
