Appendix A - The Piano

Tony was a young farmer who was living with the Wood family. He was not a
successful student. However, he had a great talent for music. When his parents made
him work on the farm, he had a chance to meet with the music teacher called Mr.
Gordon. This is the most striking event that happened in Tony’s life. Furthermore,
the farm life just didn’t affect his career. He also learned a lot of things, for instance,
friendship, love, helping each other. Mr. Gordon changed Tony’s name to give him a
reputation for his brand new music career. He wanted Tony to feel more confident
and seem fancier with the longer version of the name. In my opinion, it was a great
decision to change the name, because when we look the sir Anthony's music career,
it is shaped by 2 aspects. The first one starts with the young and poor Tony who
worked quite hard to be a pianist. The second one is a sir Anthony who was an
intelligent pianist. So the name Anthony can tell the story behind it briefly. My
favorite character of the book is Linda because she believed him, and helped with
sharing the piano books. In my view, Linda refers to self-sacrifice and love at the
same time. She was in love with him and support her love of life most of the time.
On the other hand, Tony wanted to purpose her after being famous but she wanted
him to purpose with being himself. As a reader, that was an impressive point for me.
Actually, all of the characters helped him in various ways. In fact, the only one who
didn’t help him was Mr. Grey. He was a teacher as seemed like his name. He had
grey hair and he was grey with all appearances. He didn’t like children so he wasn’t
helpful to Tony. Mr. Gordon helped Tony a lot with the piano lessons without getting
charged. Mr. Wood and Mrs. Wood helped him by raising him like their child. Also,
Mrs. Lark was beneficial for his career because Tony understood that he was really
into music with her. “Teachers are the only ones who will save the nations.” Once, a
great leader Ataturk said this. Teachers are worthy for the children and the future. In
this story, Mr. Gordon was a teacher who changed Tony’s life. According to mine, I
had a lot of teachers who affected my life remarkably. However, my English teacher
called Vishti changed my perspective. When I was in a prep year in high school, I
applied for doing a tedX talk in Istanbul. Then my speech was approved by the jury.
No one believed me, but I did this speech and It was broadcast on the tedX Youtube
channel. She said that “There is nothing behind you to hold back, just go and do this
speech with your heart and express your ideas to the community.” That was such a
nice thing that I couldn’t forget. I like this book a lot because it encouraged me to
take action for my dreams. Especially if the young pupils read this book, it would be
beneficial for them. This story tells that nothing is impossible when you work hard
and dream it. Also, I admire Walt Disney and he has a quote which links with this
book. Once he said, “If you can dream it, you can do it.” I agree with the idea of the

quote and I can relate it with Tony’s life. He dreamed and achieved his goals by
working hard.

Appendix A - Romeo and Juliet 2079

There were two types of characters in the book which were classified as Perfects and
Normals. Perfects were the snob ones and they had perfect genes. Even they did not
struggle with illnesses. Also, they had a great physical appearance compared to the
Normals. Normals were poor and they were born unlucky. They got ill and suffer
from it. They were weaker and uglier than the Perfects. In my point of view, this
classification was not acceptable for humanity, because humanity is a concept that
includes everyone without looking at differences. Romeo went to Rome by changing
his genes and he looked like Perfects. He did this to see his love of life named Juliet.
If I were Romeo, I wouldn’t change my genes to find Juliet because I would think
that it was impossible. The most striking event that happened in the story was
Tytbalt’s death because it was unexpected for me and I didn’t assume that would
happen. He was a Perfect and he seemed like he could not die easily. Moreover,
Romeo showed his self-sacrifice by changing his genes for Juliet. None of the people
would do this for someone. My favorite character was Romeo because he was
always nice to everyone and polite. He did a lot of things to reach Juliet and he
wanted to take care of his brother. He was not a selfish character and Romeo was
written deeply by the author. When it comes to comparing 2 years, there are a lot of
common things. For instance, emotions and personalities. Nowadays there are a lot
of people who have dark personalities and they are emotionless. Also, in 2079 as
mentioned in the book people have similar traits because mankind never changes
over the years. All the things that belong to our soul are always the same as the past.
Furthermore, our world is tackling discrimination and in the book, discrimination is
seen easily between Perfect and Normals.
