Category Visuals

How to assemble and store:

I printed these visuals and put in a sheet protector. I store them in my visual supports binder.
This way I can easily find visuals that I need for my students. If you are wanting to attach
these visuals to bins, laminate, cut out and attach Velcro. I store these cut up category visuals in
a plastic bag or storage container.
How to use with your students:
Build your student’s receptive (understanding of categories) language by having them sort cards,
or objects into the correct category groups. You can find these really cool trinkets on Etsy from
Dinky Doodads that I used with these visuals. Check out my “I spy” Sensory Bin blog post for
more details. There is a free “I spy” Category printable on that blog post!

Build your student’s expressive (verbal use of categories) language by having them name items in
the category groups. Put the visuals on bins and create a bean bag toss game. Whatever bin the
bean bag lands, the student has to name an object in that category group. Play win it to minute it.
Have your students try and name 3 items in each category group. See how many groups they can
get through.
