  Structural Design Check
of
Marina Star Tower

1. Introduction
This document presents the structural design check of the first floor of “Marina Star Tower”, Dubai,UAE.
The structural system of the slab is a two way prestressed slab, the slab is supported on vertical concrete
structural members.

2. Structural Analysis
After analysis process is done for the first floor slab of the project, the following comments were observed
and shall be considered:

1- it's mentioned in the general notes documents that "the environment is considered to be normal and the
design shall be made in class T", While in ACI (24.5.2.1-R24.5.2.1) it's mentioned that prestressed two
way slab systems are required to be designed as class U, refer to Appendix A figure (1) . Revised, Done

2- Tendon curvature detail mentioned in the general notes documents shall follow the ACI detail, refer to
Appendix A figure (2). Revised, Done Revised, Done
Added, Done
3- A new load combination shall be considered according to ACI (1.2.4), refer to Appendix A figure (3).
Revised, Done
4- There is a missing thickness of the cantilever in (G.A Plan), refer to Appendix B. Revised, Done

5- Two design sections shall be realigned with the columns face, if this is done both design sections will be
unsafe and and the design would be under estimate, refer to Appendix C. Revised, Done Revised, Done

6- Live end of the cables (stressing end) isn't assigned in the model, However as per ACI (423.10R-16) live
ends shall be assigned in the model to estimate the losses in prestressing force.

7- It is observed in the tendon (X) direction layout that there are 3 end points in 3 cables that don't
match with end point included in the model, refer to Appendix D figure (1), (1-1). Revised, Done
Revised, Done
8- It is observed in the tendon (Y) direction layout that there are 2 cables with length more than 30 m
and stressed only from one end point, However they shall be stressed from both ends, refer to
Appendix D figure (2), (2-2). As per TR-43 we can stress from one end till 35 m Revised, Done

9- Maximum spacing between any cable and slab edge shall not exceed 750 mm, refer to Appendix D
figure (2), (2-2).
We try to minimize to minimum considering slab condition. Revised, Done
10- The concrete cover shall be taken 40 mm, and if this is done the punching RFT for three columns
will be under estimate, refer to Appendix E Revised, Done Recheack fig no 01
11-The designer is required to consider the effect of side loads on slab design Revised, Done OUT OF
