COURSE OVERVIEW

Operating Systems Course is intended as a general introduction to the techniques used to


implement operating systems and related kinds of systems software. The topics covered will be
functions and structure of operating systems, process management (creation, synchronization,
and communication); processor scheduling; deadlock prevention, avoidance, and recovery;
main-memory management; virtual memory management (swapping, paging, segmentation
and page-replacement algorithms); control of disks and other input/output devices; file-system
structure and implementation; and protection and security

COURSE OBJECTIVES

1. Master functions and structures of operating systems and issues in the design of operating
systems
2. Master process management.
3. Master concepts of process synchronization and communication.
4. Master Memory Management.
5. Master the principles of Deadlocks.
6. Be familiar with the file system interface and implementation.
7. Be familiar with disk allocation and scheduling algorithms.
8. Be familiar with the protection and security issues of operating Systems .
