Conductivity Testing Lab:

Pre-Lab:
1. What are ionic bonds made between? What is conductivity?

2. Why are ionic bonds able to conduct electricity?

3. What is an electrode?

4. In this lab, we will be using a conductivity tester. How does it work?

5. What is quantitative and qualitative data? Which will we be using in this lab and why?

6. Would adding more salt to one of these drinks change the conductivity of the solution?
Why or why not?
Lab:

Lab Steps:
1. Place a small amount of your sports beverage of choice into a cup
2. Plug in your conductivity tester.
3. Place the electrode probes into the beverage
4. Observe the lightbulb. Does the brightness change? Write your observations down!
5. Once observed, remove tester from solution. Wipe probes with paper towels and repeat.

in Solution
Post Lab:
1. Which beverage was the best conductor? Which was the worst?

2. What does the beverage's conductivity mean in terms of the amount of ions present?
