2.3 BUSBAR

A. Busbars shall be fabricated from high strength, 55% conductivity aluminum (98%
conductivity copper for 5000 Amp. rating) and suitably plated at all electrical
contact surfaces.
B. The busway shall be capable of carrying rated current continuously without
exceeding a temperature rise of 55 degrees C based on a 40 degrees C ambient.
C. Each bus bar shall be insulated over its entire length with Class B, 130 deg.C electro-
statically applied epoxy insulation.
D. Both feeder and plug-in busway shall be of sandwich type construction.
E. A ground bus shall be furnished and shall consist of a separate 50% rated
ground conductor of the same material and composition as the phase conductors.

2.5 BUS JOINTS

A. The busway joint shall be of the one-bolt type, which utilizes a high strength steel bolt,
and Belleville washers to maintain proper pressure over a large contact surface area.
B. The bolt shall be torque indicating, fully insulated and at ground potential.
C. The bolt shall be two-headed design to indicate when proper torque has been applied
and require only a standard long handle wrench to be properly activated.
D. Access shall be required to only one side of the busway for tightening joint bolts.
E. It shall be possible to remove any joint connection assembly to allow electrical
isolation or physical removal of a busway length without disturbing adjacent busway
lengths.

2.6 HOUSING

A. The indoor busway housing shall be constructed to meet NEC Gauge Steel
Specifications with a suitable UL-approved protective finish consisting of an
iron phosphate pretreatment inside and out, and a medium - light gray ANSI 61
baked acrylic enamel applied by the electrostatic process.
B. The busway housing shall be totally enclosed, non-ventilated for protection against
mechanical damage and dust accumulation.
C. The busway shall be certified for IP 55.

2.7 PLUG-IN BUSWAY

A. Where required busway shall be of the plug-in type with provisions for plug-in
openings with a suitable outlet cover provided for each.
B. Plug-in units shall be mechanically interlocked with the busway housing to prevent
their installation or removal while the switch is in the on position.
C. All openings shall be usable simultaneously.
