Architrave - Architraves are sometimes so subtle you may not even notice them in your
own home. Architraves are the mouldings that sit around your door or window frame to
disguise unsightly joints or seams between the wall and the doorframe, or the wall and
the window frame.

Joinery - Joinery is a term used to cover all sorts of fine woodwork. The word comes
from the practice of physically joining pieces of wood together by means of various
techniques, usually involving cutting precise notches in the wood to make them fit
together, followed by pressurized and heated moulding, then finishing.

Variation - Variation refers to the differences or deviations from the recognized norm or
standard. It may be a modification in structure, form or function in an organism,
deviating from other organisms of the same species or group.

Trim - Most houses have interior trim including baseboard, quarter round and door
and window casings. These trim details protect and conceal joints, corners and changes
in material. Interior trims conceal rough cuts and edges in plaster and drywall around
windows and doors and at the floor/wall or ceiling/wall juncture.

2. Explain a technique for confirming the orientation of a building plan.

Standards of work, finishes and tolerances are identified from the project specifications.
6.3. Material attributes are identified from specifications. This unit of competency
specifies the outcomes required to read and interpret plans and specifications relevant
to construction operations.

3. What is a job safety analysis?

Job Safety Analysis is a workplace technique used to identify and evaluate the hazards
associated with specific job/tasks. With this information, the appropriate controls can
be put in place to eliminate or reduce risk of injuries to employees.

4. What is a safe work method statement?

A SWMS is a document that sets out the high risk construction work activities to be
carried out at a workplace, the hazards arising from these activities and the measures to
be put in place to control the risks.
5. Describe 5 features of specifications.

 The specification provides clear instructions on project intent, performance and

construction.
 It can reference the quality and standards which should be applied.
 Materials and manufacturers’ products can be clearly defined.
 Installation, testing and handover requirements can be identified.
 Classification within the specification can be used to support handover and asset
management.

6. What are 4 pieces of information that can be identified from a site survey?

The report identifies the street number, description of the building, the lot number and
deposited plan, any encroachments by and upon the land, fencing and encumbrances as
listed on the title. These surveys are often carried out prior to the sale of a property.

7. What do the following scales mean?

1:100 - the object is 100 times smaller than in real life scale 1:1.

1:1 - A distance at full size : The distance at the scale used that would be the same
length. For example: A full size drawing would be 1:1 (or sometimes 1/1 or 'one to one').

1:10 - A drawing at a scale of 1:10 means that the object is 10 times smaller than in real
life scale 1:1. You could also say, 1 unit in the drawing is equal to 10 units in real life.

1:1000 - The scale 1:1000 means that one centimeter (one hundredth of a meter, i.e.
0.01m) in the drawing corresponds to 0.01m x 1000 = 10 meters.

8. What is a drawing convention?

Drawing conventions are symbols used to depict natural and man-made features in a
simple but understandable format. For consistency and clarity, please can you use the
two types of drawing convention detailed below (1) for your Location Sketch, and (2) for
your Panel Sketch. 1.

9. Explain the meaning of the following drawings.

a. Square Edge Shelf

b. Spatial

c. Full cover

d. According to Building

10. Calculate the area of the room below. Provide your answer in metres.

3195mm * 4390mm= 14.02605 mm = 0.01402605m

11. Calculate the total height of the exterior wall of the house below. Provide your
answer in metres.
240+50+240*200 = 48290cm

12. Calculate the volume of Tiling required to Tiling the walls of the room below. Provide
your answer in litres. (Assume that 1 litre of Tiling will cover 12 square metres)

2.5 cm *2.5 cm /144 = 4.34027778 × 10-6 m2

13. What is a scale?

Scaling of a signal means, a constant is multiplied with the time or amplitude of the
signal.
14. Explain what the following hand signals would mean, when used on a building site.

a. Hoist – With upper arm extended to the side, forearm and index finger pointing
straight up, hand and finger make small circles.

b. Stop - In order to pause or stop an action, the signal person will extend a single arm
and face their palm down; they will then begin to swing the extended arm back and forth.

c. Lower – With arm and index finger pointing down, hand and finger make small circles.

15. Describe how a two way radio might be used in the workplace.

Two-way radios are valuable tools for anyone who works in an isolated or remote area
as custodians often do. Unlike cell phones, which may not be able to receive or send a
signal and can be hard to operate in the midst of an emergency, two-way radios can
provide immediate and reliable communication. Two-way radio networks can allow one
person to call an entire group at the same time with the press of a button, without the
need to orchestrate a conference call or set up work groups via mobile phone.

1. Explain what you underant by bulletin board and memos

bulletin-board system (BBS), computerized system used to exchange public messages or files. A BBS
was typically reached by using a dial-up modem. Most were dedicated to a special interest, which

6. why is job safety analysis conducted

To ensure hazards, unwanted events and potential risks are properly captured and addressed, a job
safety analysis (JSA) should be performed at the job site prior to carrying out the job. ... the potential
risks are known to be low. there is no safe work procedure (SWP) or similar document.

7. 2 workplace policies related to ohs requirements

Obey all health and safety procedures, including correctly wearing all personal protective equipment
provided. Monitor and evaluate OHS systems and procedures to ensure that workers are adequately
protected from workplace hazards. Report any workplace injury, illness or near misses.

11. 3 quality tools and processes that helps adhere to project quality requirements

We will look at Tools available in the three major Quality processes: Quality Planning, Quality Control
(QC), and Quality Assurance (QA). ... Comparing actual or planned project practices to a known
standard (Benchmark) for comparable projects helps to make realistic goals for variability from the
target measure.
12. do you think safe work can replace training at workplace

Safe work instructions do not replace the requirement for training; they may however be used to
supplement or guide the training process and provide reminders for staff and students on the
operating protocols and controls.
