Figure 1: Two-tier ERP system architecture

The two-tier ERP system architecture is commonly based on the Client-server model. It consists of a
clients or users and a database server. Furthermore, it plays a significant role as it provides direct and faster
communication between the clients and database server. Database server is responsible for keeping, storing,
securing, and retrieving the data and information, and then also provide data access for clients or users. As you
can see in the diagram presented, one database server is connected with three (3) clients via internet using laptop
but we can also use other devices such as computer, mobile phone, and tablet. The clients and server exchange
messages – clients send a request and the database server will provide a service response with data. In conclusion,
clients directly communicate with the database server; there is an interaction between the server and clients.
Figure 2: Three-tier ERP system architecture

Three-tier ERP system architecture consists of three (3) different tiers which entirely involve in a assessing
and ensuring the positive result in the operation. The first-tier is called as database server which provides needed
actions such as securing, updating and storing important data and information of the clients. The second-tier is
also known as application layer (server) which is accordingly a component-based model to install, operate, and
host applications and associated services for the users and also in different organizations. It contains logical
operations which focuses on processing the request made by the clients, decision-making, database interactions,
and many more. The third-tier is client which refers to the user interface of the ERP system. As we all know,
advance technology made a huge impact as it guides the over-all performance in the system. The users can use
devices such as laptop, computer, mobile phone, and tablet in order to send their request. As a matter of fact,
based on the diagram presented, the client will first interact with the application server. The application server
therefore creates a second connection to the database server. Then, the database server passes the data or
information as requested by the clients to the application server then provide a customized response to the clients.
Figure 3: ERP on Browser architecture

As we all know, web browser or simply browser is an application software used to access and visit
different websites. The most common used browsers are Google Chrome, Internet Explorer, Opera, Mozilla
Firefox, and Safari. A web-based ERP system is accordingly an ERP solution that is delivered over the internet
and then the system can access with the help of any browsers. The good thing here is, users or clients does not
need to install application in order to access data and information. They can access it anytime and anywhere but
only requires an internet connection.

In the above diagram presented, with the use of internet connection, clients can access the web-based ERP
system by just typing the HTTPS link in any of the browsers and just simply log in the username and passwords
given by the service provider. Database server is therefore responsible in updating and securing the data. On the
other hand, web server is a powerful tool which is responsible in terms of storing and transmitting data and
information via the internet. It is accordingly a software that uses HTTP and other protocols to provide a respond
upon the request of the authorized clients or users. Their main duty is to display website content through storing,
processing, particularly delivering webpages to numerous clients or users. As a student, we use web-based ERP
system which is eLMS at STI College Batangas. We are not required to install or download the application because
we can access it by just clicking the https link and through the username and password given by the service
provided. But, in this case, it is also mandatory to change the password in order to assess the security and privacy
of every student. In conclusion, applying the essence of ERP on Browser architecture is truly a big help in people
and business at the same time.
