GRIHA CRITERA STUDYING

SECTION - 01
SUSTAINABLE PLANNING
A site selection and analysis should be done to create living spaces that fit into the local environment. It is important that when
developing a site, it doesn't disturb the natural environment but, on the contrary, tries to restore its balance and make it a better place.
So, site selection needs to be considered holistically as follows:
• Contextual design in relation to the built environment around it.
• Conservation and enhancement of the natural environment.
• Planning for land use and space configuration.
• Planning for optimum resource efficiency at the design stage.

CRETERION 01 GREEN INFRASTRUCTURE
Intent- According to this criterion, the site must comply with the relevant master plan/local
development plan and guidelines. By doing so, the building projects adhere to the necessary compliance
requirements and meet the relevant building regulations. A major component of it involves preserving
and planting native vegetation. As part of this criterion, we also intend to assess proximity to multiple
nodes of transportation and amenities to manage last mile connectivity as well as reduce reliance on
personal motor vehicles, improve land-use efficiency, and enhance green cover throughout the project
area.
PRESERVE AND PROTECT LANDSCAPE
 Cooler Air /Energy Savings
 Community Aesthetics

VISUAL COMFORT
NATURAL AND ARTIFICIAL LIGHTING
• Interaction Between Building
• Generates Enormous Energy Savings, Avoiding The Reiterated Use Of Artificial Light.

.UNIVERSAL ACCESSIBILITY
• Making It Accessible To Elderly Or Disable Person
• User-Centered Design
CRITERION 02
LOW-IMPACT DESIGN
The intent of this criterion is to promote design strategies which enable the project to factor in ways in
which the natural site features (topographical/microclimatic) can be protected and/or incorporated into
the project design.
SECTION 02
OCCUPANT COMFORT AND WELL-BEING
The intent of this criterion is to ensure that the building spaces are designed to deliver visual, thermal
and acoustical comfort to building occupants. To design the building envelope, external wall sections
and select construction materials such that the overall heat gain through the building envelope is
within acceptable limits.

CRITERION 11:THERMAL AND ACOUSTIC COMFORT

The intent of this criterion is to ensure the energy efficiency of the project. Artificial lighting design to
fall within limits (lower and higher range limits) as recommended space/task specific lighting levels as
per NBC** and to meet a minimum uniformity ratio of 0.4 – Mandatory

CRITERION 12: INDOOR AIR QUALITY

In order to achieve compliance with this criterion, ventilation systems must be designed or monitored
to achieve the minimum required standards for indoor air quality. As part of this project, products and
strategies are selected to control pollutants, which are produced by substances in habitable spaces.
SECTION 03
MAINTENANCE, GREEN PROCUREMENT & WASTE MANAGEMENT
The intent of this criterion is to promote use BIS recommended wastes (such as fly ash, blast furnace
slag etc.), having properties similar to conventional construction materials for building construction.
These being low embodied energy materials as well as waste products, reduce the need for virgin
materials in the building structure and help divert waste from landfills.

CRITERION 13
LANDUSE WATER DEMAND REDUCTION
The intent of this criterion is to promote the planting of native/naturalized flora and use of water
efficient irrigation system to reduce the demand for landscape water.
CRITERION 14
WASTEWATER TREATMENT
This criterion encourages greywater and blackwater segregation, as well as their treatment on site to
decrease a project's reliance on fresh water
CRITERION 14
RAINWATER MANAGEMENT
Criteria for managing rainwater efficiently so that post-construction storm water runoff does not exceed
preconstruction runoff: This criterion intends to maintain a steady level of storm water runoff.
CRITERION 15
WATER QUALITY AND SELF-SUFFICIENCY
Ensuring quality of water available for use during building operation is important from two perspectives
– overall hygiene for building occupants as well as longevity of plumbing systems. It is also important to
ensure that the water being discharged from the site meets the relevant disposal norms. The intent of
this criterion is to ensure that the water being used in the project meets the relevant national standards
CRITERION 13
WASTE MANAGEMENT
The intent of this criterion is to ensure that good practices are followed in operation & maintenance of
building systems, eco-friendly and biodegradable products are used for housekeeping, energy efficient
appliances are used in operations, and solid waste is managed responsibly within the project boundary
SECTION 04
SOCIAL ASPECTS
The intent of this criterion is to make the project accessible for persons who are elderly and differently-
abled and to increase environmental awareness amongst the building users and visitors.
• Provision of ramp at the entrance.
• Parking (preferred parking near entrance, parking specifications for persons with special needs to be
addressed).
• Toilet for persons with special needs.

awareness amongst the building users and visitors.

and space standards for barrier-free built
environment for the differently-abled person and
elderly people for following minimum requirement
in residential and public buildings. –

SECTION 05
USE OF LOW-ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT MATERIALS IN BUILDING INTERIORS.
• The intent of this criterion is to promote installation of low environmental impact materials in the
building interiors
Following materials will be accepted as low-environmental impact:
• Stones from India
• Composite wood based products
• FSC Chain of Custody certified products
• Manufactured products with at least 5% recycled content
RENEWABLE ENERGY UTILIZATION
The intent of this criterion is to promote the use of renewable energy technologies and enable energy
generation on site.
