Chi-Square (Goodness of Fit)
Dr Imtiaz Husain
The Chi-Square Goodness-of-Fit Test:
Chi-Square is a statistical test which compare the two results (expected
and observed).

Observed Data:
The data which is collected through the sampling.

Expected Data:
The data which is predicted
When we used Chi-Square Test?
We use chi-square when we have categorical data.

Goodness of Fit Test:

It is a hypothetical test in which we check how well sample data fit a
distribution from the population with a normal distribution surely.
Hypothesis Testing of Chi-Square:
Step-1 Define the Hypothesis:
Null Hypothesis =Ho= Observed = Expected
Alternate Hypothesis=Ha=Observed ≠Expected
Example: Suppose in an office the organization
claims they provide equal opportunity both male
and female.
Since, male and female both are the one category. So, we apply chi-
square to validate the claim.

Step-1 Define hypothesis.

Null hypothesis=Ho=50:50
Alternate hypothesis=Ha≠50:50
M<F
M>F
Step-2 Experiment: If 20 employees are in the
office.
Degree of freedom (DF)=number of categories-1
Df = 2-1
Df=1
Experiment # 2
