Quality Management (QM)

EPGP-13
Quantitative Methods and Operations Management
Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode
Instructors: Saparya Suresh and Sandip Barui
Instructions for submitting the group project
As mentioned in the class, you are expected to work on a group project and submit analyses in
the form of a report (please do not submit .ppt file or .pdf file of the .ppt file). The project
(along with the case analysis report) accounts for 20% of the total marks. You have been assigned
a group, and you are expected to collaborate with the group members toward completion of the
project.
Instructions:
1. Please consider a case study, and clearly mention the motivation, objectives and
outcomes of the study. Emphasize on the business or management side of the problem.
2. Please apply various statistical quality (process and product) control tools – 7 Basic QC
tools, 7 new QM tools, control charts and acceptance sampling. It’s not necessary to apply
all but it’s better to apply some.
3. A sample case study report has been shared on Moodle for your reference. That’s just a
report for demonstration, and in no sense, an ideal one but the least that we are
expecting.
4. Gather relevant data for the case study, if required.
a. For public data or data obtained from open source database, please explicitly
mention the source and url.
b. For private data, it is recommended to use a portion of the data as opposed to the
full data to avoid any copyright issues, and that too with a written permission from
the concerned organization.
Some data repositories that may be useful for data selection are:
i. https://catalog.data.gov/dataset
ii. https://www.kaggle.com/datasets
iii. https://github.com/
iv. https://www.nseindia.com/
Please note that the above mentioned websites are not the only repositories. Feel free to
collect/access relevant data from any other sites. Just make sure to properly mention the
data source and url.
5. The project should be written in a word doc file (just like a report) and submitted as .pdf
file. Please name the file as GR<x>_EPGP-13-QM.pdf. <x> to be replaced by your
assigned group number.
6. The number of pages shouldn’t be below 3 and shouldn’t exceed 10 (excluding all outputs,
tables and figures). Hence, please try to be precise in your explanation and presentation.
7. Use ‘Arial’ font of size 11.
8. All output (including tables and figures/plots) should have proper headings and titles. All
output should be numbered, e.g., Table 1, Table 2 or Figure 1, Figure 2 etc.
9. Axes in plots/graphs should be properly labelled and titled.
10. Just one team member needs to submit the project via IIMK Moodle link (to be shared with
you later by the EPGP office).
11. The submission deadline is tentatively December 20, 2021 (Monday) by 11:59 pm IST.
12. Every analysis should be complemented with proper interpretation with respect to the
context and objectives of the study.
13. Clearly mention the contributions of each team member individually. Any team
member whose contribution is missing will be allotted 0. All team members with
significant (which is subjective and to be decided by the instructors) contributions
will be allotted equal marks.
