1 Genaral Information

This manual will guide you the service for Blood Bags Centrifuge Component-12R of HANIL.
Please read this manual to avoid any damage to the machine or to user’s safety by wrong
installation, operation, or wrong after warranty service of centrifuge, not following the contents in
this manual.
This manual is to give our users the best service. As high voltage electric current flows in this
equipment, an inexperienced user who is not skilled in this equipment must read and be familiar
with this manual before doing the service.

2 Installation

2.1 Safety Precaution

Please read carefully before Using the centrifuge.

● Centrifuge should be set up on hard and flat floor horizontally.

● Check the service voltage(210 ~ 230Vac) before supplying the power.

● Using recommended rotors by HANIL is preferred.

● HANIL does not have responsibility for any damage or accident occurred by using other
spare parts and accessories rather than HANIL recommended.

● You must understand materials' properties enough before placing dangerous materials such as
pathogenic, toxic, radiation materials, etc., in order to make sure that you are well aware of its
safety.

● If rotor chamber is contaminated by dangerous materials, please clean thoroughly first and
take necessary actions (ventilation, centrifuge isolation, etc.)

● Do not centrifuge inflammable and explosive materials.

● Put samples measured exactly into each tube and insert tubes symmetrically each other in the
rotor.

● Rotor chamber should state in dry condition before use to perform the best function of
centrifuge.

● Be careful with aluminum rotor that triggers corrosion when it contacts with strong acid, strong
base, and all kinds of salt.

2 Installation

2.2 Inspection

Upon receipt of centrifuge, please check the package whether centrifuge has any damage. If you
find any, please immediately contact with HANIL Science Company. The contact points are
written on user manual cover.

2.3 Location

● Set up the centrifuge on the stable and flat floor.


And prepare samples. For proper circulation of air, the centrifuge should be established on
the place that is defined with 30cm of both side and back

● Adjust horizontality of centrifuge with horizontal gauge if necessary.

● Open the rotor lid and put a horizontal gauge on the rotor. (Make sure to remove the rotor
lid before putting on the rotor) There are 2 height control bolts for adjusting horizontality at
the front bottom of the body. Turn the bolts clockwise to up the body and counter
clockwise to down the body. Make the water drop of horizontal gauge place in the middle
(5/3) by turning the bolts clockwise or counter clockwise using screwdriver or thick iron
core. And then, put the horizontal gauge differently (vertically to transversely or transversely
to vertically) and adjust the bolts again to make the water drop place in the middle. Lastly
check horizontality by turning horizontal gauge.

● Insert a plug in an outlet.


(Please read the following Electrical Requirements.)

2.4 Electrical Requirements

Please use the appropriate cable indicated hereunder as centrifuge requires particular power
requirement.

210~230Vac, Single face, 60Hz

High output power occurred during acceleration is rated output to reduce acceleration time.
Coupling wire of centrifuge is 3C x 2mm² for 15A with ground wire, and power plug is 250V for
single face ground, 15A. To connect to different outlet, please change the power plug compliant
local electric requirements.
Circuit breaker is built in to provide against short circuit inside the machine.
Please check the voltage with electric measurement and examine the propriety of voltage
conditions as indicated above. It may cause Malfunction or disorder of the machine if the
measured voltage is over ±10% more than recommended voltage. Please check whether the
ground wire of electric plug is grounded appropriately and whether the ground wire of the body
is connected to the ground part of the body appropriately.

3.3 Functions

● Please make a general test for the maximum speed of rotor

● Please perform the operation for refrigeration system.

● Please check if the machine operates in condition of the Lid opened, and if the Lid
is openable while the machine is operating.

4 Error Lists / Troubleshooting

4.1 Fault Lights

There are 4 Warning lights on numeric keypad for malfunction or safety of the machine. Table
4-1 explains causes and remedies of each fault light.

In this chapter, it shows replacement parts and necessary pictures for parts replacement for
Blood Bags Centrifuge Component-12R

5.1 Cabinet

The panels of machine exterior consist of 5 parts for easier maintenance of components. Disassembly
and Assembly of cabinets are the most essential part for maintenance of any part in the machine.

Please refer to Figure 5-1 and Table 5-1 for disassembling and assembling.

● Lid
① Detach air cylinder bolts connected with Lid
② Remove 4 bolt both side of Lid hinge fixed on the back panel.
③ Remove the existing Lid plate and assemble the new Lid plate in reverse order.

● Air Cylinder
① Open the Lid.
② Remove bolts connected to Lid plate and Upper Back Panel.
③ Remove the back panel and check the position of air cylinder.
④ Remove bolt(6mm) of air cylinder connected to the bottom of body.
⑤ Remove the existing air cylinder and assemble the new air cylinder in reverse order.

● Front Lower Panel


① Remove 3 bolts fixing the Front Lower Panel.
② Replace the new Front Lower Panel and screw on the bolts.

● Front Upper Panel


① Remove 4 bolts fixing the Front Upper Panel.
② Remove the Power Cable to Display Board.
③ Replace the new Front Upper Panel, connect Power Cable, and screw on the bolts.

● Left Panel
① Remove 4 bolts fixing the Left Panel.
② Replace the new Left Panel and screw on the bolts.

● Right Panel
① Remove 4 bolts fixing the Right Panel.
② Replace the new Right Panel and screw on the bolts.

● Back Panel
① Remove 3 bolts fixing the Lower Back Panel.
② Remove the Power Cable to chamber.
③ Replace the new Back Panel, connect Power Cable, and screw on the bolts.

5.2 Drive System

Please refer to Figure 5-2 and Table 5-2 for disassembling and assembling.

● Motor
① Pull out the power cord.
② Open the Lid using Emergency Lid Release on the right upper side of the back, and detach
rotor using a wrench (6mm).
③ Detach motor cover rubber and rubber fixing ring, and remove the rubber spring bolt that
supports the motor.
④ Remove Inverter wire, RPM sensor wire, and ground wire, connected to motor, take out the
motor from the machine, put in the new motor, and screw on nuts.
⑤ Assemble in reverse order.

● Spindle Hub
① Pull out the power cord.
② Open the Lid using hand-opening device on the right upper side of the back.
③ Detach rotor using a wrench (6mm).
④ Remove the existing Spindle Hub using a wrench (4mm), replace the new hub, and
assemble in reverse order.

● Flange
① Pull out the power cord.
② Open the Lid using hand-opening device on the right upper side of the back.
③ Detach rotor using a wrench (6mm).
④ Take out the motor. (Refer to "Motor")
⑤ Detach the existing Spindle hub using a wrench (4mm).
⑥ Remove the Allen screw fixing the flange.
⑦ Remove the existing flange, replace the new flange and assemble in reverse order.

● Upper Motor-Case
① Pull out the power cord.
② Open the Lid using hand-opening device on the right upper side of the back.
③ Detach rotor using a wrench (6mm).
④ Take out the motor. (Refer to "Motor")
⑤ Detach the existing Spindle hub using a wrench (4mm).
⑥ Remove the Allen screw fixing the flange.
⑦ Remove the Allen screw fixing the upper motor case, replace the new upper motor case and
assemble in reverse order.

● Bearing
① Pull out the power cord.
② Open the Lid using hand-opening device on the right upper side of the back.
③ Detach rotor using a wrench (6mm).
④ Take out the motor. (Refer to "Motor")
⑤ Detach the existing Spindle hub using a wrench (4mm).
⑥ Remove the Allen screw fixing the flange.
⑦ Remove the Allen screw fixing the upper motor case and detach the upper motor case.
⑧ Detach the Amature, remove existing bearing placed on upper and lower of the Amature,
put the new bearing in the same position, and assemble in reverse order.

● Stator
① Pull out the power cord.
② Open the Lid using hand-opening device on the right upper side of the back.
③ Detach rotor using a wrench (6mm).
④ Take out the motor. (Refer to "Motor")
⑤ Detach the existing Spindle hub using a wrench (4mm).
⑥ Remove the Allen screw fixing the flange.
⑦ Remove the Allen screw fixing the upper motor case and detach the upper motor case.
⑧ Detach the Amature, remove existing stator, put the new stator in the same position, and
assemble in reverse order.

● Lower Motor-Case
① Pull out the power cord.
② Open the Lid using hand-opening device on the right upper side of the back.
③ Detach rotor using a wrench (6mm).
④ Take out the motor. (Refer to "Motor")
⑤ Detach the existing Spindle hub using a wrench (4mm).
⑥ Remove the Allen screw fixing the flange.
⑦ Remove the Allen screw fixing the upper motor case and detach the upper motor case.
⑧ Detach the Amature and RPM sensor, remove existing case, put the new case in the same
position, and assemble in reverse order.

● Motor Cooling Fan (Refer to Figure 5-4)


① Pull out the power cord.
② Remove all cabinet panels of the body. (Refer to "5-1 Cabinet")
③ Check the position of Motor fan inside of motor and compressor.
④ Pull out the power supply terminal of motor fan and remove the bolt at the bottom.
⑤ Remove the existing motor fan and assemble the new motor fan in reverse order.

● Temp. sensor (Refer to Figure 5-3)


① Pull out the power cord.
② Open the Lid using hand-opening device and detach the rotor using a wrench (6mm).
③ Detach motor cover rubber and rubber fixing ring, and remove the rubber spring bolt that
supports the motor.
④ Remove Inverter wire and ground wire connected to motor, take out the motor from
the machine, put in the new motor, and screw on motor fixing nuts.
⑤ Check the temp. sensor at the bottom of the chamber and remove the bolt on the sensor
support holder.
⑥ Cut off the temp. sensor signal wire moderately to couple with new temp. sensor, remove the
existing temp. sensor, put in the new temp. sensor in the chamber hole, fit the sensor holder,
and paste epoxy surrounding the sensor. (Be careful not to paste epoxy on the sensor.)
⑦ Screw on the bolt of temp. sensor holder, and connect the 3 pieces of signal wire (White, Red,
Black) in the cut off part using PE tube or electric tape.
⑧ Assemble the rest in reverse order.

* Do not use for about 3 hours after replacing the temp. sensor as it takes time for epoxy pasted
surrounding the sensor to be hardened.

5.3 Refrigeration System

Component-12R is designed environmentally friendly using Alternative Refrigerant R404A


Please refer to Figure 5-4 and Table 5-4 for disassembling and assembling.

● Compressor
① Pull out the power cord.
② Remove all cabinet panels of the body. (Refer to "Cabinet")
③ Remove the power supply cable and Start Capacitor power cable connected to compressor.
④ After deflating refrigerant gas, cut off the compressor pipe using gas torch or other equipments.
⑤ Remove 4 Allan screws fixing the compressor.
⑥ Remove the existing compressor and adhere the new compressor.
⑦ Connect the compressor pipe by welding.
⑧ Connect the compressor pipe, power supply cable, and Start Capacitor power cable in reverse
order.
⑨ Supply refrigerant gas. (30psi)
⑩ Assemble the cabinets in reverse order after finishing compressor installation.

● Start Capacitor
① Pull out the power cord.
② Remove the Upper Front Panel.
③ Check the start capacitor position and remove the power supply cable connected to the
compressor.
④ Remove the existing start capacitor and connect the new start capacitor to the compressor.
⑤ Assemble in reverse order after finishing the installation.

● Radiator
① Pull out the power cord.
② Remove all cabinet panels of the body. (Refer to "Cabinet")
③ Deflate refrigerant gas.
④ Cut off the compressor pipe connected to compressor using gas torch or other equipments.
⑤ Remove 4 bolts fixing the radiator.
⑥ Remove 3 Radiator fans on the Radiator.
⑦ Remove the existing radiator and install the new one after adhering 3 radiator fans.
⑧ Weld the compressor pipe and supply refrigerant gas. (30psi)
⑨ Assemble the cabinets in reverse order after finishing the installation.

● Fan for Radiator


① Pull out the power cord.
② Remove all cabinet panels of the body. (Refer to "Cabinet")
③ Deflate refrigerant gas.
④ Cut off the compressor pipe connected to compressor using gas torch or other equipments.
⑤ Remove 4 bolts fixing the Radiator.
⑥ Check 3 Radiator fans on the Radiator.
⑦ Remove the faulty one of 3 Radiator fans by loosening all bolts at each corner, and put
the new Radiator fan on the Radiator.
⑧ Weld the compressor pipe and supply refrigerant gas. (30psi)
⑨ Assemble in reverse order.

● Lid Gasket (Refer to Figure 5-1)


① Open the Lid.
② Remove the existing gasket inserted between body case and chamber, insert the new gasket,
and insert properly by hammering the inserted part with rubber hammer.

5.4 Electronics

Make sure to pull out the power cord before you replace electronic parts to prevent any damage by
electric shock.
Please refer to Figure 5-5 and Table 5-5 for disassembling and assembling.

● Power ON/OFF Switch


① Pull out the power cord.
② Open the Lower Front Panel and check the ON/OFF switch on the right inner side of the Upper
Front Panel.
③ Detach the switch using a screwdriver.
④ Separate 2 power cables from the existing switch, couple the new ON/OFF switch in the same
position, and reassemble the Lower Front Panel in reverse order.

● Circuit Breaker
① Pull out the power cord.
② Remove the Lower Back Panel and check the breaker on the left upper side of
the Upper Back Panel.
③ Loosen 2 bolts fixing the Breaker.
④ Pull out the power supply cable and ground wire connected to the Breaker, connect them to
the new Breaker, and reassemble the Lower Back Panel in reverse order.

● Display Board
① Pull out the power cord.
② Open the Lower Front Panel and separate the connector from the main board.
③ Loosen the bolts of each corner supporting the Display board, remove the existing display
board, fix the new board by hand to be in the correct position, and screw on the bolts. Insert
the connector, and reassemble the Lower Front Panel in reverse order.

● Main Board
① Pull out the power cord.
② Open the Lower Front Panel, separate the connector from the Display board, and separate the
rest signal wires. (Put each signal wire's name memo on each wire to avoid any mistake of
using wrong wire insert.)
③ Remove the main board from the plastic fixing board, fix the new main board in the same
position, and reassemble the Lower Front Panel in reverse order.

● Inverter
① Pull out the power cord.
② Open the Left Panel and check the position of the Inverter.
③ Remove 4 bolts at each corner fixing the Inverter, and pull out the power supply cable, motor
frequency supply cable, and signal wire. (Put each signal wire's name memo on each wire to
avoid any mistake of using wrong wire insert when reinstalling.)
④ Put the new Inverter and connect all signal wires and terminals in the correct position.
⑤ Check and reset the initial value and setting value of the Inverter. (Refer to 5-6)
⑥ Reassemble in reverse order.

● Imbalance Sensor
① Pull out the power cord.
② Open the Lower Back Panel.
③ Check the position of Imbalance sensor, remove the signal wire, and loosen the bolts.
④ Remove the existing sensor and assemble the new sensor in reverse order.

6 Emergency Reference

6.1 Emergency Lid Open

● First, please make sure the power is OFF

● Prepare T-Wrench provided from Hanil.

● Fine the small hole on the side of the Front panel. (Fig. 01)

● Please turn the T-Wrench counter clockwise until it is not turning any more. (Fig. 02)

● Turn the power on.

● Try again, close the Lid and check whether it works ok.

* Important caution : all work should be done with the POWER OFF.

8 Cleaning and Maintenance

8.1 Cleaning

● Chamber
The rotor chamber in centrifuge must be cleaned and defrosted periodically for efficient refrigeration
function. To defrost the chamber, leave the Lid open until all frost is melted, or set the temperature
to 100℃ (It is an instruction word for controlling capacity of Refrigeration system) and 속 RPM value
to the Max rpm, and operate the rotor spinning until the temperature shows 25℃ on the display.
After defrost finishes completely, wipe the chamber with wet sponge or cloth, clean with water
again, and dry.

● Spindle
Clean the bottom and spindle of the rotor with soft cloth every time after use to reduce a margin of
occurrence of sticking by residues in used rotor spindle. Clean with warm water to defrost in the
Rotor chamber.

● Radiator
Radiator pin must be protected from soil, dust, or other contaminant to maintain refrigeration
efficiency. Pin is on the Back of centrifuge. Open the Back panel referring to chapter 5 before
cleaning. Clean the Pin at least once per 3 months with brush or vacuum cleaner.

● Cabinet
Clean the enamel coated cabinet panels with ointment wax or spray wax. Do not use frictional
materials and acetone.

8.2 Maintenance

Check the followings

● General checking list


① Connection part of spindle hub: Do not separate or bend.
② Bearing of spindle hub: Check whether it has noise and whether it spins softly or not.
③ Motor Amature (Commutator): Check its abrasion state.
④ Lid hinge: Check the tension.
⑤ Cover of spindle hub: Check its status and function.
⑥ Control board: Check its status and function ; bolt fixing status
⑦ Electric connection: Check its looseness.
⑧ Rotor: Check whether there is any break, its cleanness of connection part, and abrasion state.
⑨ Bucket: Check whether there is any break, and its cleanness of connection part.

Before finishing, insert the rotor and set the temperature +4℃, operate the spinning rotor at maximum
speed to check the performance of centrifuge. Wait until rotor speed is up to the maximum. Continue
operating until the temperature is down to set value +4℃, and stop. (It brakes by advance setting
steps.)

● Speed
Insert one rotor of available types (Refer to Table 3-1) in centrifuge, and measure its maximum
speed using potable tachometer.

● Time
Set the time 10 minutes, and measure the time using stopwatch.

● Imbalance
Regarding the imbalance over 15g : If you operate the machine using swing rotor in imbalance
condition of certain grade, warning light "Imbalance" goes on before approaching the maximum
speed, and then warning sound alarms twice and it brakes by set braking speed at the same time.
(Centrifuge stops operating and warning light goes on.)

● Temperature
① High temperature : Set the temperature 100℃ (It is an instruction word for controlling capacity
of Refrigeration system), insert the swing rotor, and operate up to maximum rpm. After certain
time passed, warning light goes on and warning sound alarms continuously at 40℃ on "Temp."
display. Stop operating by push "Stop" button. It indicates that the status of installed
temperature sensor and the function of high temperature sense are normal. If more precise test
is needed, please make a test according to the below item ③.
② Low temperature : Set the temperature 0℃, and open the Lid, put some ice piece on the
temperature sensor at the bottom of rotor chamber and keep 5~10 minutes. "Temp," display
shows 0℃ after certain time passed. It indicates that the status of installed temperature sensor
and the function of high temperature sense are normal. If more precise test is needed, please
make a test according to the below item ③.
③ Open the Back panel and remove the steam condensate discharge cap, put the temperature
sensor of Data acquisition unit connected with wire into steam condensate pipe and fix it. (The
projected outer temperature sensor must not be touched to the bucket. You may remove the
bucket if necessary.) Set any temperature between 0℃ and 20℃ and operate at 500rpm. You
may regard it as normal if the difference between the actual measurement temperature and
machine display temperature is within ±2℃.

● Lid-Lock System
① Close the Lid and set the lock system, then, the Lid light does not go on and the Lid does not
open while centrifuge is operating.
② If you open the Lid, the Lid light goes on and centrifuge does not operate.
③ Turn off the power in condition of Lid closing and lock system setting. If you pull the
hand-opening device on the Back side, the Lid is open with rattling sound. Please check the
abrasion state of hatch part of the lock system.

● Lid Sealing
Prepare the same size of 4 pieces of paper (Width 3/4 x Length 6 inch), and place them on the
chamber at the same interval with the Lid open. Close the Lid and set the lock system. Pull out the
paper as much as possible within the limit of the paper not fallen out. Check whether the paper
cannot be pulled smoothly by friction In the condition of the Lid completely sealed.

● Refrigeration System Check


① Refrigerant pressure - Check whether it has been charged at 20~30psi.
② Radiator - Check whether there is any contaminant such as soil, dust.
③ Radiator fin - Check any damage it has.
④ Refrigeration wire - Check the insulator.
⑤ Checking compressor electric current - Under 4.5A (60Hz)
