B1 – B2 DEGREE NONDEGREE

A REVIEW describes, analyzes and evaluates. You can review a book,
a film or even a tv series. It conveys an opinion, supporting it with
evidence and examples. It ıs a popular way to evaluate the over-all
quality and determine whether the film, tv series or book is worth
watching or reading.

An ideal review combines both your opinions about the film, tv series or
book and its important elements but in an objective manner.

OPTION 1 - MOVIE / FILM REVIEW

 Choose one movie/film that you really like and enjoy watching. Take
notes of both major and minor events and characters

 Research thoroughly about the movıe. Watching the movie is not

enough and merely describing its plot and its characters does not
make a review. Get some background information and details such as
the filmmaker’s name, his/her motivation to make the film, locations,
plots, and important events (if any) that inspired the movie. Your
research should include information that adds more depth to your
views
 Analyze the movie. Your review should include the most common
elements below:

2
Introduction
 Provide some basic information about the film - film’s name, year it
was filmed, director, screenwriter, and major actors

 Explain the reasons for your film choice. It is not enough to just say
you like/d it – what about the movie makes you want to talk about
and recommend it to others

Describe what the film is all about

 Keep this brief and avoid specific details that would spoil the viewing
for others

characters, the theme and genre, soundtrack, costumes (if
any), setting and location that contributes or takes away from
the overall plot).

 This is where you talk about your opinions and analysıs about
the plot and elements above – supported of course wıth
examples and facts from the film. If the plot has flaws, then
mention an example of a situation or scene when that was
evident. Also, if the character(s) is poorly developed or bad
casting affected the movie quality, name examples too.

 Where does the story takes place - what is the connection

between the place(s) and the story- why do you think film
producers chose these places? Which part is the climax of the
story in the movie (The CLIMAX of the story is when the
CONFLICT of the PLOT is resolved. It is often the most. exciting
part of the story: i.e. when the hero saves the princess, discovers
the buried treasure, the murderer is caught etc.)? The role of
soundtracks in your movie?

 Share your cinematic experience watching the film. How do

the film’s techniques (sounds, lighting, cinematography,
acting, editing, etc.) affect the ways the film looks, feels, and
sounds like to you? How does its story and theme affect your
views and experiences?
