Through Google Forms, we collected data from 20 respondents in grade 12 students of


VCHS (N = 20) regarding the academic performance and mental health impacts of
COVID-19 as well as key background information.

The students were asked about their thoughts on the changes brought by Covid-19.
Through analyzing the data from the interview, logically, students viewed the
impact of COVID 19 as challenging, unexpected, unfavorable, and distressing.
Thirty-six percent of the population viewed that the impact of COVID 19 is
challenging, 21% said the impact is unexpected, 29% deemed it as unfavorable, and
14% found that the impact is distressing.

Students’ view about the impact of COVID 19

To examine the students' mental health we gave them some mental health
problem signs from MentalHealth.gov, in figure 2. Out of 20 responses, 70%
have eating or sleeping disorder, 75% is lacking in energy, 70% suffers from a
sense of helplessness or hopelessness, 40% argued with their family, 55%
withdrew from people or routine activities, 60% experienced numbness, 70% are
unusually confused or worried, 70% experienced severe mood swing, 30% are
thinking of harming themselves, and 80% have inability to perform daily task
such as school works.

The students were questioned about how they deal with the impact. Many replied that
they motivate themselves, several coped with their problems, some answered that they
manage their time, few associated themselves with rules, a couple relies on technology,
and one said spending money.

In the survey, students were asked if completing a semester at home is more difficult
than it used to be. The survey resulted as out of 20 respondents, 95% agreed that
completing a semester at home is more challenging amidst COVID 19 pandemic and 5%
did not. Moreover, students were asked how the impacts of COVID 19 affect their
academic performance. Through examining the responses, these can be classified whether
it positively or negatively affect their academic performance as shown in figure 3.

After classifying each student’s response, it resulted that 18 students have the negative
effects and 2 students have the positive effect. Therefore, 90% of student has unfavorable
impact and 10% has the favorable impact of COVID 19 to their academic performance.
