Bishop Diversity and Inclusion Group - History UnErased

The Bishop Diversity and Inclusion Group (DIG) invites Bishop and APS
administrators, teachers, parents, and caregivers to attend a virtual meeting hosted
by History UnErased, an education non-profit bringing LGBTQ history, and other
previously erased histories, into the mainstream curriculum.

The 30-minute presentation will provide an overview of the Intersections & Connections
curriculum, which is integrated with K-12 state standards and includes LGBTQ history as it
intersects with race, gender, class, nationality, and other aspects of America's identity. The
curriculum is a one-time cost per school. It includes three intertwined components: virtual
professional learning, ongoing support with monthly office hours and special programming,
and a growing library of digital LGBTQ-inclusive primary source-based instructional
resources for K-12 classrooms.

The information session will take place on Monday, December 20, 2021 from 7pm – 7:30pm
(EST). To join the session, please use this link: https://zoom.us/j/96824473658
For more information about History UnErased and the curriculum, please see these videos:

BISHOP PTO NEWS AND UPDATES

Donations Still Needed for Arlington EATS Snack Program at Bishop

The snack program at our school, supported by Arlington EATS, makes sure that our
children have access to nourishing snacks throughout the school day. Our goal is to provide
snacks to any child who needs one so that there is no stigma attached to being hungry. With
this as our guiding principle, we know we will feed children who simply forgot their snack,
are growing, are extra hungry or are from a family that is struggling to put food on the table.
Research shows that students who are consistently hungry are more likely to have
developmental and educational issues. Giving children snacks allows them to concentrate
on learning - not on their hunger. The snack list is drawn from the pre-approved Arlington
EATS safe snack list.

We ask that if you can afford snacks, please provide them for your child daily. If a snack is
forgotten, one will be provided. However, please be sure to explain to your child that the
snack provided is not a replacement for their snack (if they do not like theirs). The school
snacks are only provided if their snack is forgotten or if they are extra hungry.

If you have the ability, we ask that you help support our snack program so that we can
always have enough for all children. Each teacher has their own bagged snack pack in
their classroom, which is replenished as needed.

How you can help:

● Purchase pre-approved snacks through our Amazon Bishop Elementary Snacks
● A link can also be found through our PTO website: www.bishopschoolpto.com
● Volunteer to be a parent snack coordinator

Due to safety concerns and logistics, we are unable to offer perishable snacks or fruit.

We thank you, in advance, for your help. Please reach out to Marisa Silveri with any
questions.
