“Is Religion necessary for salvation?”

I grew up in a God-fearing household and was baptized by the United Church of Christ in the
Philippines (UCCP). Ever since I was young, I’ve been attending kiddies church every Sunday, then
growing up I got transferred to the young adults Sunday school, and now I attend church Sunday service
with my parents.

When I was in grade 9, I was transferred to a Christian school where they only accept born again
Christians as transferees. It felt very new to me since it wasn’t the kind of environment I grew up with,
because I used to be enrolled in a Catholic school wherein various religions were accepted. For 3 years,
little by little I was filled with knowledge about Christianity which I thought I already knew. And one day,
I had a short conversation with an old churchmate of mine, I asked him “Wala na lage kay simba simba?”
and he replied, “Wala na man gud ko ga tuo ug religion pero ga tuo ko sa Ginoo” then he explained to
me that the reason why he doesn’t believe in religion because instead of connecting and binding us
together to create a stronger bond with each other and spread good news, it only separated us from
other people and denominations because each church and religion have different beliefs, and those
words have been pinned in my mind and heart ever since.

We all have different perspectives in life, and this is mine; I believe that religion is NOT
necessary for salvation because FAITH is the KEY to salvation. No matter what religion you belong to or
what church you attend, what’s most important is that you believe that our God exists, that you accept
Him as your Savior, and that you let God be in control of your life, putting Him in the center, and trusting
in Him plans for you.
