Overview
This instruction describes the installation of the reference monitor on the C-Arm control panel
housing. The reference monitor replicates the left monitor image at the control panel. The reference
monitor Kit is available for field system upgrades and new system installations.

Do not attempt to service or maintain this equipment before reading this entire publication .
Note: Safety glasses and safety shoes are required when performing any installation, servicing, or
maintenance of equipment. See the hazard matrix in the following Energized Electrical Work
Procedure for specific PPE relative to energized electrical work.
Note: Use proper PPE per the 9900 Service manual.
CAUTION Follow all LockOut/TagOut (LOTO) procedures as described in the service manual.
Hazard Alerts
This document uses three kinds of hazard alerts:
Alert Circumstances for Use

DANGER Indicates an imminently hazardous situation, which if not avoided, will result in death or
serious injury.
WARNING Indicates a potentially hazardous situation, which if not avoided, could result in death or
serious injury.
CAUTION Indicates a potentially hazardous situation, which if not avoided, may result in
moderate to minor injury, equipment damage, or loss of data.
Installation Instructions
Note: The following instructions below are intended for field installations.
Pre-install
Functional Check
1. Start up the system.
2. Check system for functionality.
3. If any issues are found, resolve them before proceeding.
C-Arm Covers
1. Raise the vertical column 4 to 8 inches to make it easier to remove the C-Arm cover.
2. Power down the system.
3. Unplug the system and disconnect the interconnect cable.
4. Remove front top cover, right side cover, left side cover, rear cover, and front leg cover.
5. Remove the cross arm brake handle and control panel cover.
6. Disconnect the three (3) internal cables.
7. Remove the Up, Down, and X-ray switches from the control panel cover.
8. If there is a non-(QJOLVK;-ray warning label on the existing cover, select the label
5476335-;;IURPWKHNLWPDWFKLQJWKHODQJXDJHRIWKH;-ray warning label on the
original old cover. Find the 5476335-1EN and 00-881074-04 labels. Keep the switches
and the labels in a safe place for later installation.
9. Dispose of the cover.
Note: Dispose of the cover according to local procedure.
Workstation Covers
Remove the rear and left side cover from the Workstation.
Mainframe Cabling
1. Open the cover panel by removing the two (2) screws to access the Power Signal
Interface Board. Retain the screws for later use.
2. Disconnect and remove connector J8 from the Power Signal Interface Board.
3. Remove both leads (DS2-A and DS2-B) from the AC indicator lamp connector, using
needle nose pliers and pulling firmly.
4. Locate the Power Motor Relay Board, and then disconnect J7 at the bottom of the board
and remove the cable (PN 00-879456-;;IURPWKHV\VWHP
5. From the kit, obtain the power cable (PN 00-885230-01) and then connect J7 to P7 on the
Power Motor Relay Board.
Note: Check the other connectors on the board to ensure they did not come loose.
6. Attach the ground wire from the new cable to the existing ground screw at the bottom
left chassis.
7. Route the portion of the cable with J8 through the side of the power panel, toward the
Power Signal Interface Board, and then connect J8 to P8 on the Power Signal Interface
Board.
8. Connect DS2-A and DS2-B to the AC indicator lamp. The leads are not polarized and can
be connected either way.
9. Close the panel and secure it with the two (2) screws that were previously removed.
Power Supply Mounting

1. Route the cord providing AC power (PN 00-885230-01) to the power supply down behind
the bar into the toe, and connect it to the power supply/balun assembly
(5477283/5477292) obtained from the kit.
Note: The power supply mounts to the inside left wall of the toe so that the power cord elbow points
down.
2. From the kit, obtain the power supply retention clip (PN 20478-001) from the kit.
3. On the power supply, remove the release liners from the double-sided tape.
4. Slide the metal retainer clip over the power supply about halfway up the body of the
power supply. Do not let the clip stick to the tape.
5. Mount the power supply flush with the inside left wall of the C-Arm toe (as viewed from
the rear of the mainframe) with the clip over the outside of the toe wall. Press the power
supply firmly to bond the adhesive tape to the wall.
Reference Monitor Video Cable Installation

1. Remove the cable tie from P1 LEMO wires to gain access to the P1 socket.
2. From the kit, obtain the new LEMO adapter cable (PN 5477291) and insert the two (2)
LEMO pins into the P1 LEMO socket (center white) lead to P1 pin 21 and ground
(white/black stripe) lead to P1 pin 23.
3. From the kit, obtain a tie wrap and install it to the P1 LEMO wires that were removed
earlier, including the new wires.
4. Route the BNC connector end of the video cable down through the side hole in the
chassis, taking care to keep the cable away from the high voltage lines, and down behind
the round bar into the toe space.

5. Use a tie wrap from the kit to re-bundle the cables.
6. Connect the LEMO Adapter cable BNC connector to the balun BNC connector.
7. From the kit, obtain the balun retainer clip (PN 20476-001) and remove the release liner
from the double-sided tape.
8. Slide the balun retainer clip over the balun. Do not let the clip stick to the tape.
9. With the BNC connector towards the front of the C-Arm, mount the balun to the inside
right wall of the C-Arm toe (as viewed from the rear of the mainframe) with the clip over
the outside of the toe wall. Press firmly to bond the adhesive tape to the wall.

Control Panel Mounting Bracket
1. Remove the four (4) mounting screws to remove the cross arm brake assembly.
Note: Avoid dropping the screws into the circuit area below the control board.
2. Install the cover mounting bracket (PN 5477294).
3. Using Loctite 222 with the four (4) screws previously removed; re-install the cross arm
brake assembly.

Reference Monitor Cover Assembly

1. From the kit, obtain the new control panel cover assembly (PN 5477293) and reference
monitor assembly (PN 5477289).
2. Install the Up, Down, and X-Ray switches removed earlier as shown below.
3. Route the monitor cables through the top cut out of the control panel cover.

4. Make sure the reference monitor is oriented such that it can be fully rotated when facing
WKH;-ray switch, and then attach the reference monitor assembly to the control panel
housing using the four (4) 10-14 pan head screws (PN 20271-017) from the kit.

5. (QVXUHWKDWWKHPRQLWRUFDEOHJURXQGZLUHDQG;-ray switch wires are routed within the

monitor mount channels and that there is sufficient length at both ends such that the
wires do not bind or become pinched when the cover plate is installed.
6. 6HFXUHWKHPRQLWRUFDEOHJURXQGZLUHDQG;-ray switch wires to the underside of the
control panel cover using the cover plate (PN 20456-001) and the four (4) 4-;óIODW
head screws (PN 20295-002) as shown below.

7. Install the coiled cord strain relief to the slot on the cover and secure to the two (2) cable
anchors using 6-inch tie wraps.

8. Slide the entire reference monitor cover assembly into the mounting grooves on the left
side (as viewed from the rear of the mainframe).
Caution: Be very careful to secure the cover in the grooves so the assembly does not fall during
installation and get damaged.
9. Remove the four (4) screws holding the right control panel (as viewed from the rear of the
mainframe).
10. Lower the right control panel to access the control panel chassis. Connect the ground
wire from the reference monitor assembly to the control panel chassis at the lower right
corner with a 10-32 pan head screw (PN 20268-017) and star washer (PN 20292-005)
provided within the kit.

11. Reinstall the right control panel with the four (4) screws previously removed.
12. Connect the three (3) control panel cover internal cables (disconnected earlier).
13. Lower the reference monitor assembly onto the control panel chassis. Carefully dress all
cables inside the cover to avoid crimping, cutting, or short circuit.
Caution: The cables inside the cover are a tight fit. Dress them carefully.
14. Secure the reference monitor assembly to the inside cover mounting bracket with four (4)
10-32 head cap screws (PN 20320-010) and #10 flat washers (PN 20296-005) provided in

15. Reinstall the cross arm brake handle.

16. Ensure that the reference monitor swivels and tilts smoothly.
17. From the kit, obtain the front cover (PN 20466-001). Install the coil cord strain relief to the
cover.
18. Route the RJ45 end of the coil cord through the mainframe circuit area down to the
balun in the toe.
19. Connect the RJ45 plug to the balun RJ45 receptacle.
Note: Check to make sure all balun connections and wires are tight and avoid high voltage leads.

Workstation Video Cable Installation

1. Disconnect P7 from J7.

2. From the kit, obtain the Workstation reference monitor video cable (PN 5477288) and
connect it to J11 at the back of the Workstation.
3. Route the other end of the cable through the opening towards the right of the Ebox.
4. Route the cable along the top side of the Workstation to the opening at the top (just
below the keyboard) and down towards the bottom of the Workstation.
5. From the kit, obtain shrink tubing (PN 20462-001).
6. Slide it over the cable and connect P7 to the new Workstation cable. Slide the heat shrink
tubing over the BNC connection.
7. Tie wrap each end of the heat shrink tubing as shown below. Route the cable neatly
through the cable clamps.

Test
WARNING Workstation covers are removed. Dangerous voltages are present when the covers
are removed. Take appropriate safety precautions.
1. With the covers still off, connect the interconnect cable and start up the system.
2. Verify that the system starts up with no errors, and that the reference monitor turns on
and displays the same image as the left monitor displays.
3. Verify that the control panel console keys, buttons, and control panel display function
properly.
4. Verify that the reference monitor swivels and pivots up and down smoothly.
5. If needed, the swivel can be adjusted by loosening or tightening the set screw located at
the lower rear of the curved arm. Tilt can be adjusted by loosening or tightening the two
(2) socket head cap screws located at the upper rear of the curved arm. If the tilt screws
are adjusted, both screws should be adjusted the same amount.
Labels
1. Apply the cross-arm brake handle lock/unlock label.
2. On all systems, apply the English ;-ray warning label (PN 5476335-1EN) WRWKHULJKWRI;-
ray activation button as shown below.
3. In addition, for non-(QJOLVKODQJXDJHV\VWHPVDSSO\WKH;-ray warning label (PN
5476335-;; in the language appropriate for the specific country on the curved arch
VXUIDFHEHORZWKH;-ray activation button as shown below. Match the appropriate
language to WKHODQJXDJHRIWKH;-ray warning label on the original cover removed from
the system.

1. Properly shut down the system and unplug it.
2. Re-install all covers.
