Dragon Hat

Materials: -bobbins for working color work


-worsted weight yarn in black(gray in chart), yellow, -stuffing or interfacing for ears and horns
white, and dark blue(main color)
-size 6 needles for hat Gauge:
-size 5 needles for ears and horns -20 stitches x 32 rows = 4”x4”
-stitch markers

Note: Chart is worked from the bottom up. Row 1 is at the bottom.

Cast on 89 stitches in black. Work 1st row of 1x1 rib. Row 1 of Chart.

Next Row(RS): Work in 1x1 rib for 27 stitches. Last stitch should be a purl stitch. Begin Chart starting with
Row 2 working p1 (k3, p2) repeat to last 4 stitches of chart row, k3, p1. Continue in 1x1 rib to end of row,
beginning with a purl stitch.

Next Row(WS): Work 1x1 Rib for 27 stitches. Work chart as k1 (p3, k2) repeat to last four stitches of chart
row, p3, k1. Continue in 1x1 rib to end of row.

Continue working chart in stockinette stitch for next 16 rows, ending with a WS Row.

Knit next row even in main color, joining at end of row to begin working in the round, continuing in stockinette
stitch. Note: When joining, knit last stitch of row together with first stitch of row to make an even join and
decreasing one stitch to 88 stitches. You may also find it helpful to place a stitch marker at the beginning of the
round. Work even until hat measures 4” from cast on edge.
Crown Shaping:
Round 1: Remove marker, k9, replace marker (k2tog,
k18,ssk) one time, (place marker, (k2tog, k18,ssk) three
times. Note: The beginning of round is now shifted
over 9 stitches. It is also helpful to use a different color
stitch marker for the other 3 decrease locations so as
not to mix up where the rounds begin.
Round 2: Knit.
Round 3: sm, (k2tog, k to 2 sts before marker, ssk)4x.
Round 4: Knit.
Repeat Rounds 3 and 4 until only 8 stitches remain.

Ears: Note: Place ears as desired. Chart is meant to be worked in two layers back to back worked in the round
so there is no seaming. Right side of chart is outside edge of ear.

Pick up a total of 10 stitches(5 stitches per needle) to work in magic loop and work two rounds even in
stockinette stitch. These are the first two rows of the chart.

Increase and decrease as per chart on each needle always working increases/decreases one stitch away from end
of needle. For final row of chart, k3tog instead of k2tog. K2tog on final two stitches. Cut yarn and pull
through final stitch.

Work 2nd ear opposite the first.

Horns:Note: Place horns as desired.


Pick up a total of 8 stitches(4 stitches per needle) and work in magic loop as for ear.
Work 4 rounds then decrease 2 stitches, one on each needle, closest to outer edge of hat. 6 stitches remain.
Work 3 rounds and decrease again. 4 stitches remain.
Decrease 2 stitches. 1 left on each needle.
Knit final 2 stitches together and finish as per ear.

Finishing: Seam up back of hat and weave in all ends.
