WRITING TASK 1: MAPS

The given maps illustrate changes regarding the infrastructure of Frenton between 1990 and 2012
Overall, it is clear that the town of Frenton underwent considerable adjustment during a 22-year period,
yet the division remained unchanged. In addition, the town became less green over time.
To the intermediate east side of High street, there was once an area for café and park, which was then
replaced by a hotel and a golf course. The houses right opposite it were converted into blocks of flats. The
theatre and the shops in the south were also demolished and redeveloped into a cinema and a
supermarket. To the western part of High street, planners knocked down the old playing fields and
constructed blocks of flats at the same place. In the far west stood a restaurant and a Technopark which
was originally a bank and a place planting trees.
The hospital adjacent to High street remained at the fixed location; however, it was expanded twice as
much as its original size while no change was made to the library right in front of it. Besides, the school
in the northwest of the town stayed intact over the timescale. Some flats were newly constructed at the
end of the street.
In conclusion, comparing the two maps, there were significant changes after a period of 22 years in
Frenton, especially with trees being cut down.
