Greetings!
Hope you all are safe and healthy.
Athimoolam, the drawing master, was a talented teacher. His students used to enjoy his
drawing classes. One day he drew two pictures on the black-board. One depicted a dense forest.
There were colourful flowers; a river was brimming, bubbling with water, birds of various kinds
were flying and perching on the branches... It was green everywhere. It was really fertile and
attractive. A crow sitting in a corner was giving prey to its young ones.
The second one depicted an awful and thick jungle. Animals like tiger, lions were roaming
around and roaring; floods were found all over. In short, it was very terrifying. In a corner a
crow was giving prey to its young ones. The teacher said, "My dear students, here is a
competition for you. You can see two pictures on the board. They have a deep message and
lesson. Look at them keenly and tell me which picture you like more and why. The one who
gives the correct answer will be awarded with this beautiful new pen."
The students were splitting their hair. Time paused. Many said that the first picture was better;
some preferred the second. But, none could point out the exact message & lesson. At last
Jonnie, the first rank boy stood up and said, “Sir, I like the second picture more!" "Is it so?
What is the reason for your preference” the teacher enquired. Sir, in the first picture all the
situation is very conducive, everything goes on smoothly, the crow gives prey to its young ones,
there is nothing great in it; but in the second picture, though the situation is rather threatening
and not advantageous, the crow discharges its motherly duty fearlessly to provide for its young
ones. So, we too need to do our duty in any situation in order to succeed in life”.
Jonnie said clearly and emphatically. The teacher appreciated him profusely and awarded him
as per his promise. The whole class also applauded him.
The lesson that we get from this story is to be faithful to our duties. As a student my duty is to
study and work hard. Come what may whether it is online or offline we must be responsible and
faithful to our task. Always remember that if you think you can, you can. You can be a total
winner even if you are a beginner. It doesn’t matter if you’ve won before, it makes no difference
what the half time score is. It’s never over until the final gun. So keep on trying and you’ll find
you’ve won. You grab your dream and then believe in it. Go out and work for it and you’ll
achieve it. If you think you can, you can, If you think, you can, you can!
So work hard starting today itself. Give equal attention to all the tests. Let us not remorse over
yesterday’s failures, worry about tomorrow’s uncertainty, instead live in the present and utilize
the moments of opportunity. Avoid resentment, criticism, jealousy, anger, impatience and
skepticism and work wholeheartedly towards your personal growth and development.
Remember that the important thing in life is to have a great aim and to possess the aptitude
and perseverance to attain it.
