Based on the western philosophers beliefs, how can you define the characters in the story as a man? Give
one specific philosopher you are pertaining of.

DILIGENCE OF A MAN

I can define the character in the story as a parent who doesn’t want to experience the
weakness that he is experiencing now and realize how to work at a young age. I think the man in
the story is just securing the future of his son by joining his son with him in engaging the horses
to pull the water, even though they have machines so that his son will get used to doing that thing
until he gets old. I can relate this story to the philosophical view of Plato which is, “ Man is a
speaking animal.”. I can define man as a parent animal like a duck. We, humans, are just like
animals, the differences are just, we can think differently and do many things that we can do while
the animals are not. I saw the man in the story as a parent duck who lets their child swim on their
own with their guidance and help so that when they get old they can swim on their own. Just like
in the story, the man doesn’t want his son to use a machines because his son doesn’t do anything
and will get used to using the machine. Also, like an animal, when they grow up they are the one
who will make their own path and in the story the man doesn’t want his son to be dependent on
him or in other things, he wants his son to work while he is young so that his son can maintain
being hard-working and having a good health and so that when he passed away can his son can
lived and work with his own. In this story, everyone will learn that every act that we do, has an
effect on everyone, it’s either a good or bad effect so that, most importantly, we must be careful in
our actions towards other people.
