“Embodied Spirit”

“Who am I?”. At first, we might think that this question is just very simple and that it can be
answered by just simply saying our name but on the long run, we would come to a point in
our life where the easiest questions to ask are the hardest questions to answer. In my own
opinion, I believe that it is right. We are more than what we see through our naked eye
because there would always be more than just our outer appearance. As Aristotle quoted
"All men desire to know" and I as one entity quench for knowledge about the mystery of our
embodiment. I am always asking to myself “for whom am I living for?” and “who are the
person who am I live with?” I study here at Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation for me
to fulfill my dream to become a Police woman someday but the real question is for who am I
living for? For studying more? For me to be able to reach my goals in life. I think yes,
because if I do not study right I will not able to achieve my goals and I will stay as I am right
now. Standing and sitting here in our house waiting for some grace to come.

Calasanz said that the existence of human life to human in answering the question “for what
I am living for”. To be able to defend my own opinion I will relate this Gabriel Marcel’s theory
to my own story of life. I am always asking to my self “for who am I living for?” and “who are
the person who am I living with?” so after reading this article, I consider myself as
existenctialist because I have characteristics that the that the existentialism have. For
example, existentialist thinkers attempt to philosophize from the standing point of an actor
rather than of specters just like me that can stand whatever the situation is. Even we do not
have money to support my studies I strive to find a job that will support my studies and after
finding the job, I talk to myself “you do the right thing to fulfill your dreams, good job.” There
are more characteristics of a existentialist thinkers that may help their way of thinking
something about something but in real thing is if this characteristics may help the other
people the way they think. I think yes, because this is a guide to the people in handling their
own problems in life.

According to the article, a man is his body and yet, he is also his spirit and will. Like I’ve said
earlier, we are more than just our body and an example of that is saying our feelings towards
someone because body is not the one responsible for feeling, it is the spirit and will. There is
no possible world where a body exists without itself. Yet, it does not seem logically
impossible to imagine a possible world where the self exists without its body. We take such
stories to be supernatural, fantastical, or fictional, but not logically incoherent. So, it seems
reasonable to suppose the logical possibility of a disembodied self.

I find it intriguing that there exists two parts of a man because as a student, we were taught
back in our junior high school days how our brain and other organs of the body works, and
all these time I thought that the one responsible for our actions and thoughts are our
brain(which is a part of our body) however, while reading this article I have learned that even
if the soul/spirit and body functions differently, they need each other to co-exist, and there
are studies by great philosophers that gives us an explanation to this but aside from that, I
think that the explanation of the life of an embodied spirit is also interesting as it is the part
where the author states how the body works for the spirit and how the spirit gains its
knowledge from the experiences of the body as a being in the world.
This means that proving an identity relationship between the self and the body requires a lot
more than empirically proving a causal relationship between physical states and mental
states. One must also prove that it is logically incoherent to suppose that there are any
possible worlds where the self is disembodied. So it seems that while this burden is heavily
placed upon the physicalist, the supernaturalist can merrily go along believing that she is her
soul.
