ACTIVITY 2

1. How would you characterize yourself?

For me, I characterized myself as a strong, independent and strong-willed person. Strong in a
sense that I can face problems with positive approach and thus, can provide solution to it. Independent
in a way that I can manage things on my own little ways. Strong-willed person who take situation that
what I think is right for me thus against to other people around me with the attachment of good deed.

2. What make you standout from the rest? What makes you special?

In this world, I do really believe that everyone of us is different, we have our own strengths and
weaknesses as well. One thing that make me stand out from the rest is being myself alone. I am an
individual who has a diverse personality.

3. How has yourself transformed itself?

“Experience is the best teacher”, this quote has a good impact about myself. With my
experiences in life, I gained of what kind of personality that I possess right now. It really changed my
character, perspective in life and insights that make my character or personality honed.

4. How is yourself connected to your body?

Myself is connected to my body is in different kind of aspects, which are; spiritual, mental,
physical and emotional aspects. These aspects honed in to myself that is the main importance of myself.

5. How is yourself relate to other selves?

I can relate myself to other selves though connecting to them. Through my interconnection to
other people, I can relay situation that may be similar to other as same as to them. With this, we can
have same common interests in life, hobbies or etc. that will make the bond strong.

6. What will happen to yourself after you die?

There is no certain concept of what will happened after you die, it may depend on what kind of
environment that you grew to. In my case, after all the good deeds that I did, I may consider myself to
go to the “afterlife”. Maybe I may not be perfect from this world, I know that I did some things that will
make other people happy especially to my family and from Thy above.
ACTIVITY 3

In your own words, state what “self” is for each of the following philosophers. After doing so,
explain how your own concept of “self” is compatible with how they conceived the “self”.
1. Socatres
“Self, as understood by Socrates, is the self that is ready to rule over the self.”
The physical aspect is where we are mortals that is constantly changing from time to
time. The spiritual aspect is where are immortals that is unchanging while it is attached to our physical
from.
2. Plato
“The soul is really the entity distinct from the body.”
With this quote, I believe that our soul is the central part of our body. The soul is the
main source of outputs that we want in our life.
3. St. Augustine
“Self is his relation to God.”
St. Augustine said that us humans is the same image of God.
4. Rene Descartes
“Minds is the seat of our consciousness”, “I think therefore I am.”
I believe that when we think, the existence of our selves begun. Maybe that is the
concept of Rene Descates have.
5. David Hume
“Impression and Identity.”
We have a lot of senses that we perceive. Self is just a succession of perceptions.
6. Immanuel Kant
“Transcendental argument.”
With this, we all have inner and outer self which together form our consciousness.
7. Glibert Ryle
“Concept of Mind”
It identifies the mind with the immaterial information in the brain.
8. Merleau-Ponty
“Physical body to be important part of what makes up the subjective self”
Our body is the “self”, perceptions is the “mind” that is interconnected.
