APPLICATION These spectications were released originally for automotive body and chassis parts. They also simplify material designation on Enginsering Drswings whan steels with mechanical properties stiteble for designing and forming the pari ere to be specified and compdnenis could be sourced In several countries. The abbrevietions heading the tables (see para 5.3) indicate the country of origin of the specification as follows: ISO _ International Standards Organization BS UK of GB & NI (British Standards institute) DIN Federal Republic of Garmany (Deutsches Institute) EN European Union ASTM USA American Society for Testing & Materials) Caution: Material supplied to WSD-M1A333-A3/AA (Interstitial Free (IF) Steel) usually contains {itanium as an alloying addition. Suci titanium alloyed steels, If subsequently surface Wealed by a nitrocarbunsing /ox\iZing process, risk tecoming embrittled because of the formation of an ultrafine TiN precipitate. IF steels containing vanadium and niobium are also thought to be prone to this effect. Accordingly, IF steel should be avoided for parts subjected to the above noled surface ‘treatment processes.
