Question 2. Give reasons for the appearance of new combinations of characters in the F2
progeny.
Answer. An organism can inherit each character independently. So, in the F2 progeny new
combination of character appears. Tall/ Short and Round/Wrinkled seed trait are independently
inherited.
Question 3. Evolution has exhibited a greater stability of molecular structure when compared
with morphological structures. Comment on the statement and justify your opinion.
Answer. There is immense diversity in size, form, structure and morphological features in the living
world. At the molecular level, these diverse types of organisms exhibit similarity of the basic bio
molecules like DNA, RNA, carbohydrates, proteins, etc.
Question 4. Study the following cross and showing self-pollination in Flf fill in the blank and
answer the question that follows (Q12, Q13 and Q14):
Answer. Rr Yy Round, yellow.
Question 5. In previous question, what are the combinations of character in the F2 progeny?
What are their ratios?
Answer. Round yellow – 9, Round green – 3, Wrinkled yellow – 3 Wrinkled green – 1, Le. 9 : 3 : 3 : 1.

Dear students,
Write the following question and answers in your note book.
If elements are arranged in the increasing order of atomic masses, elements with similar
properties lies after a certain interval in the periodic table.
2. Write two main characteristics of Mendeleev’s periodic table and write name of elements of
second period.
Answer:
two main characteristics of Mendeleev’s periodic table are:
(i) It consists of 8 vertical columns called groups and 6 horizontal rows, called period.
(ii) In every period, elements are arranged in increasing order of their atomic masses.
3. List three main anomalies of Mendeleev’s classification of elements.
Answer:
Anomalies or defects of Mendeleev’s periodic classification of elements are as follows:
• Position of hydrogen.
• Position of isotopes: Isotopes of an element were not assigned separate places.
• Elements which are chemically similar such as gold and platinum have been placed in separate
groups.
(b) (i) Classification of elements on the basis of atomic number is more closer to chemical
properties.
(ii) No separate places for isotopes of an element are required.
(iii) In case of Ar and K, Ar has less atomic number so it should be placed before K according to the
increasing order of atomic number.
