and Training (NIAIMT)
Implemented under NATRiP, Under Ministry of Heavy Industry, Govt. of India

NIAIMT has two facilities under IMS:-

(1) Fixed Inspection Lanes, installed at NIAIMT’s Silchar Jaffirbond campus.
(2) Mobile Inspection Lanes, which can move to any place and can do
vehicle fitness test at the spot.

Fixed Inspection Lanes

There are two lanes installed and commissioned at IMS lab. One lane is for Light Moving
Vehicle (LMV) and the other one is for Heavy Commercial Vehicle (HCV). Both lanes are fully
automated and computerized. The machines and equipments are installed and
commissioned by M/s Mustang Advanced Engineering (MAE), Ohio, USA which is one of
the world leaders in this sector.

Mobile Inspection Lanes

There are two Mobile Inspection Lanes which can move to any place and can do Vehicle
Fitness test at the spot. Bothe the lanes are capable of testing LMV and HCV. Both lanes are
fully automated and computerized. The machines and equipments are installed and
commissioned by M/s Mustang Advanced Engineering (MAE), Ohio, USA which is one of
the world leaders in this sector.

Tests:-
The below tests can be done for a particular vehicle at Fixed Inspection Lanes or Mobile
Inspection Lanes:-

1. Pollution Test (Opacity test for Diesel version and Gas analyzing
for petrol version)
2. Alignment Test (Side slip plates)
3. Headlight Test

Page 1
4. Sound Test / Noise Test
5. Speedometer test
6. Brake test for multiple axles
7. Suspension Test (for LMV)
8. Joint Play test
9. Visual Check # Decelerometer (optional)

Report and Certificate:-

After every test the data is automatically saved into the computers integrated and on
completion of all tests a computerized report is generated showing all test results
individually. The report cum certificate is Authorized and recognized by all.

Business Viability:-
In India there is law to test all the commercial vehicles after particular intervals (1 year or
two year) and to get “Vehicle Fitness Certificate”. The fitness certificate is also important for
claiming Insurance. Here comes the demand for fitness testing. Only authorized centres can
issue fitness certificate to a vehicle. Generally one fitness testing centre covers a zone.
NIAIMT’s IMS is a state-of-the-art Authorized fitness testing centre.

Equipment’s Brief and Specifications:-

1. Pollution / Emission test (Opacity/gas analysing):

Equipment: Capelec 4 Gas analyzer/opacimeter with RPM sensor.

Parameter for Petrol version: CO (% vol.), CO2 (% vol.), HC (ppm vol) ,
O2 (% vol.) and Lambda.
Parameter for Diesel version: Opacity ( /m), takes 10 accelerations.
Test time: 8-10 mins

CAPELEC: CAP3201

2. Alignment Tester (Side slip plates):

Description: Alignment testers are also called side-slip plates because they measures sideways
movement of vehicle’s wheels when the vehicle is moving forward. The side-slip plates are fitted
with a sensor that measures the sideways drift of the vehicle in fit/mile or meter/km.

Plate Dimension (with mat): 740X860X44.5 mm

7. Suspension Tester:

Type: The BM40000 suspension tester is designed for axle load of up to 2000 kg. The
suspension tester is using the EUSAMA measuring principle for testing the suspension
system of the wheels. The unit consist of a one bed system with a vibration plate for left and
right wheel, which controlled by an electrical gear motor.

Results: The test results are as standard shown on an aluminium display with large point
meters for left and right wheel values and large 50 mm digital readout of imbalance
between left and right wheel.

Test Procedure: The test is performed by vibrating a plate vertical from app 25 down to 3 Hz
simulating all road conditions. During the test sequence the wheel weight is continuously
measured and the lowest saved for comparison with the static wheel weight.
The ratio between the lowest weight measured and the static weight is determined as the
EUSAMA value, which is also known as the Road Adhesion value. The value is presented in
percentage on the display and printout.

mechanical condition of axle components on heavy duty vehicles. The stub axles, steering
pivot points, suspension, hinge points and bearings all can be inspected while 4 hydraulic
rams induce 45° movements.

Features:

• Hand held pendant with flashlight and built in controls

• High friction wheel surface

• 4 hydraulic rams induce transverse and longitudinal movements
