Check-in at
Hung Hom Halls and Homantin Halls of Residence
Before arriving at the hall, please prepare the required documents according to Point 1 of
the Special arrangements due to the COVID-19 pandemic for processing check-in.
For public health reasons, students who have not completed the quarantine requirement
of the HKSAR Government will not be allowed to enter the student halls.
Students may only check-in to the halls once they complete the AR programme
registration. The AR registration dates are between 2 and 29 August. Students will need to
make their own accommodation arrangements before checking in.
The Hall Reception operates from 8.30 am to 11.00 pm daily. Late check-in after 11.00 pm
will generally not be considered. Students should email the Hall Administration and attach
their inbound travel ticket at least 3 working days prior to arrival in Hong Kong in order to
obtain approval.
To allow all non-local research postgraduate students to get familiar with the University
and Hong Kong, an information session will be arranged for you. Useful tips on campus
life and essential information related to living in Hong Kong will be shared during this
gathering. Please attend this hybrid information session, scheduled for 17 August 2021,
Tuesday at 3.00 pm (Hong Kong Time). The login link will be available here on or before
16 August 2021.

Must Bring Items
You need to wear a mask in public areas on campus/residences and throughout Hong Kong.
Please bring sufficient masks for daily use, or you can also buy them locally.
Cash
Please have some cash ready as you may need to use Hong Kong dollars as soon as you arrive
in Hong Kong.
Credit cards
Please check with your local bank in advance to see if your credit card can be used in Hong
Kong and if any additional charges will apply to cash withdrawal at ATM machines, etc.
Documents with details of your insurance policy issued in your home country, if applicable.
Please check the weather details on The Hong Kong Observatory website and pack
clothes accordingly for your stay in Hong Kong.
You can expect sunny, bright and cool weather during winter, and occasional mist and

There is no heating system in Hong Kong and some winter days can be very cold. You may
consider bringing warm clothes for the cooler days or alternatively buy one in Hong Kong.

Insurance
PolyU has prepared a basic insurance coverage (Group Personal Accident Insurance) for
students joining PolyU activities during their stay in Hong Kong.
The University has also acquired Group Travel Insurance for students participating in
activities, recognized by PolyU, outside Hong Kong.
Please note that PolyU insurance policies do not cover personal hospital expenses, public
liability or travel outside Hong Kong. Hence, you may consider purchasing Group Medical
Insurance Scheme and/or Public Liability Insurance Scheme for further protection. Brief
highlights are as below:
The Group Medical Insurance Scheme covers hospitalization medical expenses due to
accidental bodily injuries. However, out-patient consultations will NOT be covered by the
Group Medical Insurance Scheme.
The Public Liability Insurance Scheme covers legal liability for accidental third party
property damage (tangible property) and/or accidental third party bodily injury in
connection with the Insured’s business.
Information of optional Group Medical and/or Public Liability Insurance Scheme(s) for
non-local students in 2021/22 academic year (i.e. 30 August 2021 to 28 August 2022) will be
