HCI ASSIGNMENT NO 3

Name: Zain Hassan

CMS: 997-2017

Question 01:
Analyze the following scenario and write down seven stages of action for given
particular scenario for solution. Scenario is “Suppose I want to go to market,
but the tire of my car got punctured. Now I have to repair it ‘You are
required to write the seven stages of Gulf of Execution and Evaluation to solve
the scenario.

Solution:

Stage 1: is Forming a Goal. This is what you want. As an example, I want to go to

market, but the tire of my car got punctured. Now I have to repair it.

Stage 2 is Forming the Intention. This is what would satisfy the goal. A repaired
car would satisfy my goal for reaching the market.

Stage 3 is Specifying an Action. What do I have to do to achieve the intention? I

would need to repair my car to meet the requirement set in my goal.

Stage 4 is Executing the Action. Here I would do the steps of the action. I would
repair the car.

Stage 5 is Perceiving the State of the World. Using the senses to gather
information. My repaired car would be able to move to the market.

Stage 6 is Interpreting the State of the World. What has changed? Punctured tire of
my car has been changed and it can move now.
Stage 7 is Evaluating the Outcome. Did I achieve my goal? I can move towards
market now without worrying. I achieved my goal.

Question 02:
What is user centered design and Interface design and usability engineering?

1. User-centered design (UCD) is a collection of processes which focus on

putting users at the center of product design and development. You develop
your digital product taking into account your user’s requirements, objectives
and feedback.

User-centered design (UCD) is an iterative design process in which

designers and other stakeholders focus on the users and their needs in each
phase of the design process. UCD calls for involving users throughout the
design process via a variety of research and design techniques so as to create
highly usable and accessible products for them.

2. Interface Design is the process designers use to build interfaces in software

or computerized devices, focusing on looks or style. Designers aim to create
interfaces which users find easy to use and pleasurable. UI design refers to
graphical user interfaces and other forms—e.g., voice-controlled
interfaces.User interfaces are the access points where users interact with
designs. They come in three formats:

Graphical user interfaces (GUIs)—Users interact with visual representations

on digital control panels. A computer’s desktop is a GUI.
Voice-controlled interfaces (VUI’s)—Users interact with these through their
voices. Most smart assistants—e.g., Siri on iPhone and Alexa on Amazon
devices—are VUI’s.
Gesture-based interfaces—Users engage with 3D design spaces through
bodily motions: e.g., in VR(Virtual Reality) games.
3. Usability engineering is a professional discipline that focuses on improving
the usability of interactive systems. It draws on theories from computer
science and psychology to define problems that occur during the use of such
a system. Usability engineering involves the testing of designs at various
stages of the development process, with users or with usability experts.
Rather than focusing on finding solutions for usability problems—which is
the focus of a UX or interaction designer—a usability engineer mainly
concentrates on the research phase. In this sense, it is not strictly a design
role, and many usability engineers have a background in computer science
because of this.

Question no 3:
Make a sketch for your Campus management system (Hamdard) library
management system. User can enter the book name, Book call no. and
Description in screen 1. This screen can save user’s entered data and if he /she
is not able to understand the entering process there should be a help section
for that as well. The user should be able to exit at any time and can navigate
through the interface as well.
