NATHPANTHIS, SIDDHAS AND YOGIS

(PATH OF SALVATION AND THEIR
TEACHINGS)

The Nathpanthis, Siddhas and Yogis

criticised the ritual and other aspects of
conventional religion and the social
order. They advocated renunciation of
the world. To them the path to salvation
lay in meditation on the formless
Ultimate Reality and the realization of
oneness with it .
ISLAM AND SUFISM
• In the eighth and ninth centuries religious scholars developed different aspects of the Holy
Law (Shariat) and theology of Islam.

• The Sufis often rejected the elaborate rituals and codes of behaviour demanded by Muslim religious
scholars.

• A large number of Sufis from Central Asia settled in Hindustan from the eleventh century onwards.

• The Sufi masters held their assemblies in their khanqahs or hospices.

CONTRIBUTION OF KABIR ,
NANAK,MEERABAI & GURU NANAK IN
BHAKTI MOVEMENT
Contribution of Kabir to Bhakti Movement:

Kabir Das is the first Indian saint who has coordinated the Hinduism and
Islam by giving a universal path which could be followed by both Hindus
and Muslims. According to him every life has relationship with two
spiritual principles (Jivatma and Paramatma).

Contribution of GURU NANAK to Bhakti Movement:

The most famous teachings attributed to Guru Nanak are that there is
only one God, and that all human beings can have direct access to God
with no need of rituals or priests. His most radical social teachings
denounced the caste system and taught that everyone is equal,
regardless of caste or gender
Contribution of mirabai to bhakti movment

Mirabai's contribution to the Bhakti movement was primarily in her

music: she wrote hundreds of songs and initiated a mode of singing the
songs, a raga. About 200-400 songs are accepted by scholars as being
written by Mirabai; another 800-1000 have been attributed to her.
