JOB DESCRIPTION
Title of Position: Head Nurse

Department: ICU Department

Immediate Supervisor: Dr. Leo Fernandez

Medical Supervisor: Dr. Ryan Macaraeg

JOB SUMMARY:

The ICU Head Nurse is responsible for planning and directs nursing service activities for assigned
intensive care unit patients.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Delegates responsibilities to auxiliary and intensive care unit staff nurses


2. Supervises preparation and maintenance of intensive care unit patient clinical records
3. Providing patient paperwork to doctors
4. Monitors status of consistency of nurses in rendering quality care to the patients inside the ICU.
5. Manages inventory of solutions, supplies, medicines, narcotics, and equipment according to hospital
policies, procedures and regulations.
6. Evaluates intensive care unit staff performance and quality of service.
7. Analyze area needs, study new trends and development and offer recommendation to nursing
administration.
8. Manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs
9. Participating in the hiring of new nursing staff and training new hired nurses
10. Has full authority for personnel actions
11. Must have an extensive knowledge of department processes
12. Defines nursing standards, delegates nursing responsibilities to the front office staff and evaluates
their performance.
13. Participates in professional conferences dealing with education and health within the limits of nursing
practice.
14. Resolving employee conflicts.
15. In charge of organizing and carrying out a variety of administrative work, according to Indeed.
16. Responsible for managing the overall safety and comfort of hospital patients through ensuring the
nursing staff provides competent care
17. Follows safety procedures and remains stocked with necessary tools and equipment.
18. In charge of handing out assignments, maintaining medical records, reviewing and signing
appropriate nursing procedures and practices, training and educating nurses and developing effective
19. Report directly to doctors, health care specialists, and upper management as an intermediary
between nursing staff and management to maximize patient care and organization.
20. Provide counsel and guidance to the staff.

Benefits and requirements include:


• Starting wage of 400.00 PHP an hour, more with experience
• Differential – Evening 300.00 PHP, and Night 300.00 PHP of the base union rate, 350.00 PHP per
hour for BSN/MSN (one for each)

• Personal leave with an accrual rate increase based on time served

QUALIFICATIONS
• Must be a Graduate of Bachelor of Science in Nursing, as a minimum, of an accredited University
or College.
• Must be a Registered Nurse with up-to-date PRC license.
• Must have at least three to five years of experience as a Staff Nurse.
• Must be familiar with organization and function of all department and with policies, regulation,
and procedures of the hospital.
• Must have updated trainings such as Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support, IV
Therapy, and Standard First Aid.
• Displays genuine interest in works
• Able to multitask and collaborate with other health care members.
• Must have a certificate in nursing management as well as sufficient clinical experience with
proven managerial skills.
EXPERIENCE/TRAINING:
A minimum of 1-year clinical experiences as a Staff Nurse or will orient to point of competency.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION:

• Registered Nurse (RN)


• Active applicable licensure
• BLS and ALS Certifications at date of hire
• CCRN preferred.

If selected and prior to hire, applicant will be asked to:


• Submit fingerprinting and criminal background check screening.
• Provide current evidence to be free from active pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) with test results
dated within the last 12 months prior to start date.
• Provide a copy of current CPR and First Aid certificate (s), if available.
• Provide current evidence of negative results to COVID-19 testing performed within 2 weeks
prior to start date.

IMPORTANT NOTE: As part of the employment requirement at this unprecedented time of


COVID-19 testing with negative results will be required prior to appointment.
