Drama gives students an avenue to express themselves through storytelling and role play which provides an outlet for

developing important
communication, critical thinking, collaboration, and creative skills. The ability to create imaginary worlds opens limitless connections for
students to learn important concepts and facts through the lens of drama.

This semester students found themselves in an imaginary village faced with the problem of a difficult wizard, students had to work together to
come up with persuasive language and actions which would help them to get the sun to rise on the village once more. In this unit students
touched on the dramatic content of character, setting, improvisation and movement. Students responded to the work ‘The First Snow of
Winter,’ by bringing the characters they watched on screen to life by creating their own small improvised, movement and tableau pieces
inspired by key moments in the movie. Students also looked at conflict through the lens of drama using role-play to explore possible solutions
to several conflicts they may experience during school and life.
