IIT(BHU) Varanasi
EO-201: Network Analysis and Synthesis
Date and time of posting : 21st November 2020, 10:00 am
Submission due date and time: 2 2nd November 2020, 10:00 am

Total points: 59 points
***********************************************
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Attempt all the questions.
2. Write answers giving a ll the steps for all the questions.
a. What is meant by writing all the steps?
i. Any NEW expression/circuit/plot MUST be preceded by an
explanatory note/justification/statement as per the requirement.
3. Write answers in your own handwriting. Typed answers will NOT be accepted.
4. You need not write the question. Write the answer giving the serial number of the
questions. All the pages should be numbered sequentially.
5. All the answers should be given in the sequence of the serial number of questions.
6. Answers to a fresh question should start from a new page.
7. Scan all the answers in a sequence and make a SINGLE pdf file.
8. Name of the pdf file should be end-<roll number>-<branch code>.pdf. For example a
student from mechanical having roll number as 19203405 should name his file as
end-19203405-mec.pdf.
9. On the TOP of EACH page of submission, write down
a. Your Name,
b. Your Roll Number,
c. Your Branch, and
d. Put your signature.
10. Submit the pdf file of answers on Google Classroom in response to the Question
Paper.

QUESTION 1 (45 points)
p(s)
Consider a functions given below in form.
q(s)
K s (s2 +4) s5 +4s3 +5s
(i) N (s) = (s2 +1)(s2 +3)
, (ii) N (s) = 4 2
,
3s +6s
K (s2 +1)(s2 +9) s (s2 +2)(s2 +4)
(iii) N (s) = (s2 +1)(s2 +10)
, (iv) N (s) = (s2 +1)(s2 +3)
,
(s +1)(s +8) (s +2)(s +4)
(v) N (s) = (s +2)(s +4)
, (vi) N (s) = (s +1)
,
(s +1)(s +2) 3(s +2)(s +4)
(vii) N (s) = s(s +3)
, (viii) N (s) = s(s +3)

2(s +1)(s +3)
(ix) N (s) = (s+2)(s +6)

For each of the functions, do the following.

(a) Identify if the given function meets the necessary conditions for a driving point function
or not with justifications.
(b) Identify whether the function is realizable as a driving point immittance function or not
with justification.
(c) For the network function, which are realizable, identify the type of network realizability
possible with justification.
(d) Realize all the possible networks identified in (c).

QUESTION 2 (2+4+4+4=14 points)

(a) The specifications for a Butterworth low-pass filter are
Pass-band  0 - 2 M rad/sec
Pass-band loss  ≤ 2dB
Stop-band loss ≥ 60dB at 6 M rad/sec
Find n and c .

(b) The specifications for a low-pass filter are
α ≤ 2dB for f ≤ 2 M Hz
α ≥ 60dB for f ≥ 8 M Hz
Find the transfer function of the Butterworth filter which satisfies these specifications.
Select c to satisfy the pass-band edge characteristic exactly.

(c) Show that the half-power point of a Chebyshev low-pass amplitude response is at ω= cosh
βk for ∊ ≪ 1.

(d) Determine the system function for the following filter specifications:
(i) Ripple of ½ dB in band |ω| ≤ 1 ;
(ii) at ω=3, amplitude is down 30dB.
