beauty that surrounds him and feels an urgent need to stop to admire the nature around
him. The poet uses language techniques effectively to highlight the speaker’s love for
nature.

Firstly, the speaker’s love for nature is brough out in how he describes the woods around
him as beautiful and mysterious. He describes how the ‘woods are lovely, dark and deep.’
The use of triple construction clearly emphasizes how the speaker is entranced by the
beauty of the woods that surround him. The woods have a mysterious, alluring quality
about it and the speaker is completely drawn to it. In the way that the speaker admires
nature, his love for nature is clearly highlighted.

Furthermore, the speaker’s love for nature is also brought out in the way that he brings out
the idea that nature is a calming force. As the speaker rides on his horse, he feels ‘the sweep
of easy wind and downy flake’. The use of the adjective ‘easy’ conveys how the wind blows
slowly and in a relaxing manner. In addition, the adjective ‘downy’ highlights how soft and
comforting the snow is as it falls around the speaker. All this contribute to creating a very
calm and relaxing atmosphere. The poet also utilizes enjambement in this line to highlight
how the wind blows smoothly and without any stops, once again highlighting what a
calming force is it as it blows. Therefore, through the presentation of nature as a calming,
relaxing force, the speaker’s love for nature is clearly conveyed.
In conclusion, the reader is able to clearly discern that the persona in the poem is captivated
by nature, so much so that he, for a moment, neglects his main priority which was to
continue with his journey. He feels an intense need to stop to admire the beauty of nature
and therefore, his love for nature is clearly highlighted.
