Miranol® Ultra produces foam that is more homogeneous, pH=5.5)
containing smaller, more closely packed bubbles. This translates
into high density, long lasting foams that are perceivably richer
and creamier than foams produced by conventional amphoteric
surfactants. Shown in Figure 3 is a comparison of the foam

Optimum Mildness and Reduction

Mildness is a quality Miranol® Ultra shares with other

imidazoline-derived amphoterics through the amino acid
component of its structure, which is highly compatible with
human skin. Our studies show that Miranol® Ultra significantly
reduces the irritation potential of anionic surfactants.

When formulated as a co-surfactant in shampoos and personal
cleansers, Miranol® Ultra actually enhances product performance 39.5
by increasing the delivery of active materials to the hair and/or 40
skin. It works in synergy with cationic polymers such as Solvay’s

Jaguar® conditioning polymers. Miranol® Ultra also works in
30
synergy with alkyl glucoside type surfactants. Replacing a 22.8
portion of alkyl glucoside significantly boosts the deposition of
actives in hair, as shown in Figure 4. 20

Our studies also show that replacing betaine with Miranol® Ultra
significantly improves conditioning performance of shampoo 10
formulations at the same conditioning active level.

The way we do business
Solvay puts into practice a sustainable development policy called Solvay Way because we are convinced our future is
dependent upon the responsible way in which we conduct our current activities — a way that reflects our commitment to
each of our stakeholders. Solvay Way encompasses three interlinked, equally important spheres: the Environment Sphere,
the People Sphere and the Economic Sphere.

Based on a framework of responsibilities, Solvay Way allows Solvay sites and businesses to conduct self-assessments of their
practices and establish action plans that promote continuous progress. At Solvay, the way we do business creates sustainable
value for all our stakeholders through innovation and partnership.
