5. For more vocabulary practice, give students Purchasing and Leasing
Vocabulary Matching. Have the students work on this activity individually.
Review the answers orally as a group.

6. For reading practice and vocabulary development use Purchasing and

Leasing Reading Comprehension. Have the students work on this activity
individually. To review the answers, have students take turns reading the
completed paragraphs. Conclude with a discussion of each passage.

Assessment/Evaluation of Learning:

1. Teacher observation of students’ participation.

2. Evaluation of student worksheets.

Optional/Follow-up Activities:

1. Write the optional vocabulary words on the board. Go over the pronunciation of
each word by asking students to listen and repeat each word. Don’t discuss the
meanings of the words at this point. Students will learn the meanings of the
words as they are used in context.

2. Give students Your Guide to Purchasing and Leasing Brochure. Have

students take turns reading paragraphs in the brochure, helping them with
words they have trouble pronouncing. Talk about the meanings of the
vocabulary words as the class reads about them in the brochure. Discuss the
ideas and opinions presented in the brochure. The back panel of the brochure
asks students to write their ideas about leasing and purchasing automobiles and
homes. Give them a few minutes to do this. Circulate and help them write their
ideas. Some students may need to tell you what they want to write. Write it for
them on a separate sheet of paper and have them copy it onto their brochure.
For those students who are able to write, walk around and make corrections to
their spelling, punctuation, and diction.

3. For more vocabulary associated with leasing, teach the ESL Civics Special
Project Intermediate lesson plan entitled “Understand Terms of Leases and
Rental Agreements.”

4. Use Purchasing and Leasing Vocabulary Flash Cards for further vocabulary
development.
