COVID-19 Situation Update 1/4/2022

Cumulative Roanoke City and Alleghany Health Districts: 43,143 (up 2277)
• Alleghany Health District: 28,358 total
• Roanoke City Health District: 14,785 total
• Approximately 12% of new cases are in children
• Approximately 45% of new cases are in persons younger than 35 years of age
• The majority of new cases and hospitalizations continue to occur in individuals who are not
fully vaccinated.
• For the week ending in 12/25/2021, which is representative of current vaccination rates,
people in Virginia who were not vaccinated developed COVID-19 at 12 times the rate as
people who were fully vaccinated and were hospitalized at a rate more than 24 times that
of fully vaccinated people.

People hospitalized with COVID-19, as of Monday 1/3/2022: 115


• 83 new hospitalizations
• 42 in the Roanoke City Health District, 73 in the Alleghany Health District
• As a reminder, these numbers reflect hospitalizations for residents of the RCAHD. An additional
49 individuals from outside of these districts are currently hospitalized in local hospitals.

• 463 Alleghany Health District, 273 Roanoke City Health District
Vaccine Distribution:
Including all vaccinators, almost 390,000 doses of vaccine had been administered to residents of
Roanoke City and Alleghany Health Districts by 1/4/2022 including third/ booster doses.
