Giles County ends Declaration of Local Emergency and lifts open air burn ban.
As a result of weekend weather that resulted in most of Giles County receiving between 1½ and 2
inches of rain, with additional precipitation in the form of snow. Effective, Monday December 11,
2023, Giles County has ended its declared local emergency that went into effect on November 6,
2023. As a result of the termination of the declared local emergency, this also ends the open-air
burning ban that also went into effect on November 6th.
Giles County would like to encourage the public to keep safety a priority when conducting any
controlled burns by following these reminders:
1. Always call and report that you are conducting a controlled burn to the Giles County
Sheriff’s Office emergency communications center at 540-921-3842.
2. Consider weather prior to burning, avoid burning during dry, windy conditions.
4. Never use gasoline, kerosene or any other flammable liquid to start the fire.
