Characteristics of an Effective Public Speaker.

Perception: People are always interested in listening a person who is able to show that he is
relaxed, and comfortable while talking to large number of people. And also makes it interesting
by talking directly to people and make a connection with them as if it is a conversation.

Perfection: In order to have a speech perfectly delivered people often make the mistake of
trying to correct their mistake. An a effective speaker is most likely to ignore this as he is aware
that the audience does not know it’s a mistake until he shows it in his expression.

Confidence: this is the most important part which a effective public speaker must have. This
can be achieve by think about a positive response from the audience and if it is done on a
regular basis your mind will become used to the prospect of speaking in public, and pretty soon
you’ll conquer any feelings of anxiety.

Practice: Like anything else in life, it takes practice. Effective public speakers also practice
before giving a speech. We too often take communication for granted because we speak to
people every day. But is quite different when talking to a group. And we often forget our
speech when especial when it is being given in front of unknown people.

Expert: Apart from all the points given above it is also vital to know about the topic that you
are going to talk about. Showing high levels of expertise is essential to holding an audience's
attention and connecting with them. A public speaker who fails to prepare, or appears

Overconfidence: although having confidence is a good thing but being overconfident is not
good as it might offend your audience as you might be not at all interacting with them or you
maybe interacting with them but in such a way that there viewpoints don’t matter.

Information: An ineffective public speaker is likely to bombard his/her audience with too
many topics. Or, he/she might insert visuals such as graphics or flip charts into her program
without explaining their relevance. Covering too many points dilutes those subjects which in
turn cause the audience to lose interest.

Manner of speaking: A speaker's personal delivery style impacts an audience. Poor eye
contact, a monotone voice and lack of preparation are ingredients for a bad speech. Another
common goof is failing to connect with an audience as the speaker might be busy giving the
presentation and not being aware of the situation among the audience.

Attraction: An ineffective public speaker neglects to include enthusiasm into his/her lecture.
He avoids techniques that gain attention, such as a strong opening line or stories that hold his
audience's attention. Every good speech needs a “It” point.

Appropriateness: Public speaking requires a professional demeanor and appropriate attire.

An audience of labor-class might feel uncomfortable if a guest speaker was aware a business
coat instead of casual clothing. Likewise, bankers expect more formal dress from a presenter.
An insensitive statement or off-color joke also repels audience members which might cause the
speaker to lose his/her credibility and Professionalism image.
