THE COURSEWORK

(Replacement assessment in lieu of onsite examination)

# Module ECONOMICS OF MONEY AND BANKING @Intake


2021/2022@Semester 1

The coursework is designed into 03 parts and some notes with these following
objectives.

The first part comprises applicable issues which require students make a
thorough review of the behaviour of interest rate in the debt market. The second part
requires analysis on the existence of free rider problem for traded securities that
financial intermediaries should play a greater role than securities markets in financing
the activities of businesses. And, the third part asks students to present understandings
on features and functions of central banks.

The notes highlight key points on writing and submission to help students
achieve higher scores.

Part I: Application of the Yield Curve: How does it work in practice? (4


points)

Please visit the website of the Hanoi Stock Exchange with the link
https://www.hnx.vn. In the website, please navigate to the section "TRÁI PHIẾU" and
then select "Đường cong YIELD CURVE". The following is to select a specific
payment date "Ngày Thanh Toán" and make analysis on the following:

1. Distribution of the market data

2. The trend of the Yield Curve and the Par Yield

Part II: Analysis on the existence of free rider problem for traded securities
and roles of financial intermediaries in financing the activities of businesses (4
points)
First, illustrate examples about asymmetric information leading to adverse
selection (you can give examples in either global market or Vietnamese market).

Second, make analysis on the role of banks in financing the activities of


businesses.

Part III: Analysis key features and functions the central banks (2 points)

Based on the structure of FED, please make analysis on its advantages and
disadvantages

Some notes on writing and submission

- Writing: the course work is required to have well-structured paragraphs


(which include introduction to the issues, solving the problem, conclusions about the
topic discussion. Besides, it should focus on the context relevant to the question's
problem. Furthermore, the analysis should be supported with evidence and cited
statements on the relevant aspects in order to clarify the topic being discussed, causal
relationships or consequences.

-Submission: submit the soft copy following the instructions sent from the
Training Department to student emails.

- Lastly, submit the soft copy to Google Classroom or Microsoft Teams Box of
the Class, so that the lecturer can grade the coursework, and send feedback to students
as soon as possible.

- Deadline: 2th January, 2022.
