Bribery

Bribery is a serious problem in many countries. It can be defined as forcing someone to

do something by giving them money or something they want. It is a well-known fact that bribery

is illegal. However, many corrupt people will give and/or accept bribes. Even though there are

some upsides to taking or giving bribes, there are two main reasons why bribery is wrong.

First of all, bribery causes injustice on many fronts such as business, education, and

sports. It is unethical to offer bribes to raise your business status. For example, you may work

hard at a company but your colleague who works less than you may make a deal with your boss

to give him something he wants in exchange for a promotion. Another example from education

can be that if your parents are rich, they can make a donation to the school you want to study at

and you will instantly be admitted. However, if your parents are poor, no matter how successful

you are, you might not get in. In sports, some people or teams take bribes for betting purposes,

which affect other people.

Secondly, bribery can affect our legal thus whole system. A very obvious example for

this would be a presidential candidate giving money or support to people just for the sake of their

votes. Another example would be rich criminals paying lawyers to put innocent people in jail.

Additionally, rich companies can pay people who are harmed by the company’s products to not

go public with that information or not to sue the company. This is wrong mainly because it rips

the public of the opportunity to learn the truth about a company. These valid examples are proof

that why bribery is unethical and how it can disrupt an entire system.

On the other hand, taking bribes will surely improve your quality of life. You can earn

more money easily. For instance, you can get a promotion that you do not qualify or didn’t do

the required work for. Additionally, you can discard the legal consequences of your actions if
you bribe the right people. However, your quality of life will not increase in an equitable way

because bribing is unethical and illegal. Personally, you will always bare the risk of being caught

and the fear will make your life worse. Publicly, you will have earned the money or the position

someone else deserved.

In conclusion, bribes are unethical and illegal, and bribing people is wrong because it can

cause injustice and disruption. The rewards should go to the people who deserve them, not to the

people who take shortcuts. Even if you gain a better life by bribing people or taking bribes, it

will have consequences such as the risk of being caught. To sum up, cautions to end bribery

should be taken. People should not offer bribes and the ones who do offer should be reported to

the proper authorities.
