MONOMYTH OF THE HERO’S JOURNEY 2

The Hero’s journey describes a path that a hero goes through that would change the way he

views his surrounding after completing his adventure. Star Wars IV film showed how Luke went

through the stages that Campbell outlined in his hero’s journey. Luke had to go through several

events before becoming a hero in the end. Luke was merely a farm boy that became a great Jedi

and was known to be the opponent that defeated and ended the Tyranny of the Sith.

The villain plays a very important role in the Hero’s journey. Grand Moff Tarkin put up a

great fight and pushed Luke to his limit in accomplishing all stages in his journey to becoming a

hero. The villain presents the toughest obstacle that would cause the potential hero to fight to the

very end to defeat him. Without the villain, the hero wouldn’t experience each phase of the

hero’s journey and his outcome may be different be it in his joy and celebration or the

appreciation for his journey that would positively shape his life. A hero is always an opponent

Luke was determined to finish what his father had started; he was even more determined
