A. Meteorology (5X4=20)

1. A shipyard has contract to build a ship in 300 days using 1600 men. After 120 days they have

built only one quarter of the ship. How many men working at the same rate will be needed to

complete the ship on time.

2. A rectangle has a perimeter of 14 cm. If the length is decreased by 1 cm and the breadth

increased by 1 cm the area of the new rectangle is 12 cm2. Find the original dimensions.

3. Two ships approach a port, their courses converging at an angle of 23 0. At a certain time one

ship is twice as far from port as the other and their distance apart is 32 nautical miles. Find how

far each ship is from port.

4. The perimeter of a rectangle is 240 m. The length to breadth ratio is 5 : 3. Find the area of the

rectangle.

5. In spherical triangle ABC, B = 300, C = 900, AB = 700. Find side AC.

6. The diameter of a barrel are 395 mm at each end, 477 mm at quarter and three quarter lengths

and 500 mm at mid length and the total length is 581 mm. Using Simpson’s rule calculate the

capacity of the barrel in litre.
