8. Design: In this study, researcher used qualitative data
types by means of observation. Observations
will be carried out simultaneously with the
learning process using the observation sheet
provided by the researcher. This research will be
implemented in English lessons at SMPN 2
Mesuji by using English songs.
9. Participant The participants in this study were students in
class VIII A at SMPN 2 Mesuji. The reason the
researcher chose this class was because at
SMPN 2 Mesuji had never learned to use
English songs to improve students' listening
skills.
10. Instruments Observation is used to collect data by observing
events that occur in the research process. In
carrying out observations, researchers will
follow the learning process and determine that
the learning process uses English songs in
accordance with the stages.
11. Data Collection The data in this study were taken during the
process of learning English in class VIII A using
English songs. Students are given several songs
and asked to understand the meaning of the
song.
12. Data Analysis Class VIII A consists of 25 people, 10 boys and
15 girls. From the results of research data, there
are about 5 people who have difficulty
understanding English songs. And others, they
are very easy to understand the meaning of a
given song.
