CHAPTER I

INTRODUCTION

This research is about making a floor wax which you can use as a substitute for

commercial floor wax. This research includes the ingredients such as banana peel extract,

kerosene and candle.

We are involved in modern generation, that some products now are rising in price. As

the researcher have noticed the price didn’t go down. For us to be trusty when it comes to

financial, be creative and think opportunely. Use the left over kerosene and deprecated candle

in your house to make floor wax and no have to buy in stores.

The researchers know that this floor wax can poison a child once he/she accidentally

eat this but it is helpful to people because it makes their floor glossy and looks presentable

when there’s a visitor. That’s why the researcher choose and decided to do this research in

order to help people even though in just a little thing.

1
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

1. Is there any significance between the experimental product and commercial product in

terms of :

2.1 Odor

2.2 Appearance

2.3 Glossiness

2.4 Color

2.5 Softness

HYPOTHESIS

There is a significance between the experimental product and commercial product in

terms of :

1.1 Odor

1.2 Appearance

1.3 Glossiness

1.4 Color

1.5 Softness

2
OBJECTIVES

The first objective of this experiment, is to be more attractive the experimental

product than a commercial product in terms of odor because the usually odor of the

commercial floor wax is gas while this experimental floor wax is smells banana and

kerosene.

Next, is to be more useful this experimental product than the commercial product in

terms of glossiness. When the researcher improve the glossiness of this experimental product,

your floor may looks more clean than using commercial floor wax.

Last objective, is to avoid expenses during cleaning the house. To attempt them how

to avoid expenses, you can make it in your house. To help other people who haven’t floor

wax in their house and in far places from the department store.

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

The significance of this study is to make homemade floor wax that can help us. The

beneficiaries of this floor wax are those people who are cleaners in their house or other

facilities. It can help their floor in house and facilities shine and presentable especially when

there’s a visitor.

The advantage that will receive of the future researcher is the floor itself will looks

clean and glossy even though the future researcher is still waxing their floor. Because of this

the future researcher will be have an interest and be enjoy on what they are doing.

3
SCOPE AND LIMITATIONS

This experiment can only use by the people whose floors are only cement fluorine and

duck boards. It can’t use by the people having tiles floors in their house.

This experiment is conducted only to test the combination of banana peel extract,

kerosene and melted candle to prove that this can substitute for commercial product.

DEFINITION OF TERMS

Banana Peel Extract – is a sap from the peelings of banana which used as the fragrance of

the floor wax.

Kerosene – a refined petroleum used to don’t go back the candle as it hard before.

Candle – a cylindrical body of tallow used as the main wax.

Gooey – happens when the melted candle has mixed with the kerosene.

Sappy – it comes out in the peelings if the banana is unripe.

Deprecated – are things that are not using.

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

 LOCAL STUDY

According to SBG San Antonio, Candles are popular way to freshen up your home

but researchers now say some types of candles have toxic ingredients that could be

bad for your health. A southern Carolina State University study found long term

exposure to emissions of paraffin wax candles could cause poor indoor air quality. Dr.

Devi Nampiaparampil said the candles can release chemical like toluene and benzene

into the environment.

These chemical can contribute to allergies and asthma. Researchers say to watch out

for lead which is in many wicks.

 FOREIGN STUDY

According to Nicholas L. Lam, Kirk R. Smith, and Michael N. Bates, kerosene has

been important household fuel since the mid-19th century. In develop countries its use

has greatly declined because of electrification. However, in developing countries,

kerosene used for cooking and lighting remains wide spread. These review focuses on

household kerosene uses, mainly in developing countries, their associated emissions,

and their hazards. Kerosene is open advocated as a cleaner alternative to solid fuels,

biomass and coal, for cooking, and kerosene lamps are frequently used when

electricity is an available. Globally, an estimated 500million household still use fuels,

particularly kerosene for lighting. However, there are few study designs and quality

5
are varied, and results are inconsistent. Well- documented kerosene hazards are

poisonings, fires, and explosions.

METHODOLOGY

MATERIALS

 4 pieces of medium size candle

 2-3 small cups of kerosene

 Banana Peelings of 2-3 banana fruit

 A piece of cloth

 Knife

 Milk’s can

 Empty bottle

 Any container

6
PROCEDURE

1. Prepare the materials.

2. Slice the banana peelings into small cubes.

3. Set aside.

4. Boil the candle in the milk’s can until gets melted.

5. Put the kerosene in the milk’s can together with the melted candle.

6. After 1 minute, put the slice banana peel in the milk’s can with melted candle and

kerosene.

7. Mix them every 5 minutes.

8. After 15 minutes, add some cloth in an empty bottle as a strainer and start to put the

mix ingredients in the cloth and squeeze.

9. Wait until it became firm.

10. Put it in the Tupperware or in any container.

11. Last, flatten the floor wax in the container/Tupperware.

7
CHAPTER IV

RESULTS AND DISCUSSION

Based on the result of the experiment, the more amount of the kerosene mixture into

melted candles is the gooier a floor wax is, but the less amount of the kerosene mixture into

melted candle is the less gooey a floor wax is. Kerosene uses to do not go back the candle on

how hard it is before.

CHAPTER V

CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION

8
In this product, the researchers gave enough time to do this. But if you want to make

this product, it is easy to take for you especially when you have the complete materials and

equipment. This product conducted not just only for the researchers but also for you that want

to import our research product. There is many research that is interesting but this product is

simple. It is not needed much money to make it, all you need to do is to give time and effort.

The researchers don’t have much money that’s why the researchers choose this kind

of products. If you will try to do this research paper, make some added ingredients to have

some improvement for this product. We want also to organize this product step by step. This

product is conducted to test the combination of banana peel extract, kerosene and melted

candles. There is someone who will make it nice and it is you.
