LESSON PROPER
Sound & Before starting the lesson the teacher will provide a video which
Movement shows the letter of the alphabets and its sound. This will help the
students to improve their identification skills, memorization skills,
brainpower, and confidence. Let us follow the strategy: I do, we
do, you do.
 Watch the video first with the student.
 The teacher identifies the letter and the sound first.
 The child will say the letter and its sound with the teacher.
 The child will identify them alone.

Practice  Identifying the sound of English alphabet minutes
 Show the letters that are written in the pocket cards
 Model the sound of letter. For example: “letter, A, says /ah/”
Points at the letters and ask student to repeat the
corresponding sound.
 Use any word that aligns with the topic and begins with the new
sound. It helps to pick a word for which you can provide a
picture to associate with the sound.
 For individual practice, point to the letters and give each student
a turn to say the corresponding sound.

New Sound Practice: Writing


 Before the lesson, after identifying all the alphabets and their
sound, write a letter on a piece of paper
 Say: “This is how we write new sound /bbb/.” Ask the student to
pronounce the sound of the letter.
 Ask the student to get a piece of paper
 Let the student continue and write the sound of the letter
he/she knew until the last while pronouncing the sound of each
of it.
Sound Review
 Before the lesson, the teacher will prepare a set of alphabet
cards.
 Hold up a card randomly. Say “this is letter __. Can you say the
letter? What sound does it makes?
 Ask your student to say the sound.
 Let you student name the sound as you go through the alphabet
cards.

Phoneme Matching and Rhyming Words


 Before the lesson, tell the student to identify the word that
rhymes and have the same matching sound.
 Create posters with pairs of pictures illustrating objects that
rhyme (examples: bug and hug, pig and dig).
 Model saying the picture names in pairs.
 For individual practice, Ask your student to say the pictures
names and ask them again if they rhyme or not.

Phoneme Matching and Rhyming Words Practice


 Give the student the worksheet, each number has 3 words and 2
of them rhyme words.
 Let the student identify and choose the words that rhymes by
encircling them.

Word Family Reading


 Prepare lists of rhyming words with the common word ending
underlined (examples: cat, flat, scat).
 Include word families that the students are familiar with.
 Model by reading the underlined part first and then the whole
word: “at, c – at, cat.”
 Let the student read the words followed by individual practice.
Start with two to three words and gradually increase as student
become familiar with the routine.
 Gradually use more word lists, including at least one list with
words that don’t rhyme.
 Let the student read each list quickly and identify the rhyming
words.

Note: You do not need to discuss all. It depends on your topic.

 Prepare the visual aids and materials and simply explain the
meaning of phoneme matching and phoneme isolating
 Give examples to understand what is phoneme matching and
isolating
 Follow the strategy: I do, we do, you do.
 Ask student to give an example like “man and pan” to see if they
already understand the lesson.

 Say: “Our first word today is different. Say different.” (Students
repeat.)
 Teacher explains the word different and how we use this word.
 Show a picture as an example or act out the word to better
understand it by the student
 Teacher repeats the procedure with next word. The next word is
“wife”

Comprehension  Show you student the cover of the book and say that a story’s
title usually tells who or what the story is about. Say: “The title is

 Ask your student what they know about what is on the cover.
 Say: “I will point to and read each word and sound.” Then, show
your student how to track text with a finger while reading.
 Say: “I will point to the word or sound. You will tell me the word
or sound.” Prompt turns: “your turn” or “my turn.”
 If time permits, repeat reading the book with the child.

Home Work The teacher will give the student homework to answer and recall 2

he/she accomplished the homework and give the student a star.
