Tp MR Well. RASS MUSSEU SERVICE” TE‘ RTH FAULT ON A DAY ROTOR DURING MANUFACTURE “The aim of this t2st is to locate the exact position of any earth faults that are detected during the ‘winding operation. This may be en individual coils or a fully connected winding. Equipment Requited Aw O-SAOC SUPPLY, OR CAR £ eT » Famell LS30-10 povtrogen” © BaTrERy C 2) Thuriby 1503 Digital Munimeter. 2) One large, one small insulated spike probe, 4) Two connecting and green earth leads. Procedure 1) Sening up of Equipment @ Connect the supply across both poles of ine roter winding via the *D'leads, if & ‘complete winding, If individual coils, connect across the two ends. Use the 170 connecting leads plugged into +S and -S of the supply. (i) Depress INPUT burton and tum VOLTS to maximum ard AMPS te minimum on the ‘supply. (i) Depress OUTPUT buon and tun AMPS to obtain 2 smps on the supply (y) Connect green earth lead bewean body of rotor end -va terminal of volt meter. Connect iarge insulated spike probe to tha +Ve terminal of meter, selecting function and *920 m* range, betore depressing the powar *on* button. 2 Ita Complete Winging, Locate on whieh Pole the Fault is Present @ Using the targe spike probe, make contact with each end of the winding (inboard of the curent connection). Nove the meter readings. The pole with the lowest reading is the pole with me faut, j) Locate on which Coil the Fault is Present Place the probe on the top or boniom turn of each coil on the suspect pole, noting the meter reading for each cal, The coil with the value closet to zero, either positive or negative, will possess the earth fault. a Locate lon of the Fault on the Suspect Coil @ Starting at ine tap of tne coll stuck, place the probe on sach successive turn, nating the meter reading for each tum. The ideal location to do this is just ater the coil exits tha slot past the comb, The turn with the value closest to zero (+ve or -ve) will possess the faut. () Repeat the probe readings on the suspect turn @ the other three slot exits, nating the teadings obtained. if the polarty of the readings chariges from one ertd of a slot ‘compared with the other, then the faust will be somewhere in between these readings, (i) (FOR DUCTED ROTORS ONLY) - To further pinpoint the faut, take probe readings on ‘the suspect tum, on the suspect slot, down the ait vants using the small inculated proba - GREAT CARE SHOULD BE TAKEN TO AVOID INTRODUCING SHORTS BETWEEN TURNS! General lt the resistance of the fault is high (Ka) and or unstable or there is more than one fautt, then this ‘method of fault finding is inappropriate.
