IDA JEAN ORLANDO & MYRA LEVINE

1. In the video that was presented in the lesson for the theory of Ida Jean Orlando, there
were major assumptions presented. Choose 2 major assumptions & explain how you
understand them. Enumerate & describe briefly the steps of the nursing process.
• Nurses are concerned with needs that patient cannot meet on their own.
From my own point of view, as nurses it is our responsibility to cope up with the needs
of the patients that cannot perform certain task on their own. We should be accomplishing all
the patient’s self-care requirements for them or we should be compensating for the patient’s
inability to engage in self-care.

• The nurse must establish a helpful relationship with patient.

In order for a nurse to respond for the client’s unmet needs, a nurse-patient relationship
is essential to form trust and show empathy but we must put professional boundaries. As we
form positive relationships with our patients, it will be easier for us to motivate them to become
more engaged in their own health and recover more quickly.

NURSING PROCESSES
• ASSESS - Assessing involves knowing the patient's data and other personal information.
• DIAGNOSE - In this process, we evaluate their symptoms, we are analyzing their condition and
actual situation.
• PLAN - For our patient, we must have a thorough set of goals, treatments and monitoring plans.
• IMPLEMENT - At this juncture, all the treatments in the planning process must be performed.
• EVALUATE - Determine if the previous care process's objectives and unanticipated outcomes
were met.

2. In the video presented in the theory of Myra Estrin Levine, what is the focus of her
theory? Describe the 4 Principles of Conservation.
The focus of Levine's theory is on promoting, adapting, and sustaining wholeness through
conservation principles. Her model also emphasizes energy conservation, organization, and personal and
social integrity, which all aid the nurse deliver better patient care.

• CONSERVATION OF ENERGY - To prevent excessive tiredness, energy input and output

must be controlled. It requires getting enough sleep, eating properly, and exercising.
• CONSERVATION OF STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY - Describes the process of rebuilding the
body's structure in done to avoid destruction and promote recovery.
• CONSERVATION OF PERSONAL INTEGRITY - People who aspire for recognition,
selfawareness, dignity, individuality, and self-determination are acknowledged.
• CONSERVATION OF SOCIAL INTEGRITY - A person is defined as someone who has a
family, acquaintances, religion, personal preferences, political process, and country.
